Pulled the 540i out a couple weeks ago intending to prep it for Udderly Euro since I have never been but unfortunately a work trip last minute canceled those plans. Either way getting it out of storage is forcing me to work on it. I did change the oil at 156k and finally raised the suspension up 1" front and rear. Still need to have the front wheels on 2x4's to get a low-pro jack under the front subframe but Ben and I are happy where it sits now. Handling improved greatly as well as I'm not getting bounced around anymore Still need to refresh the steering components but otherwise its picking away at cosmetic issues.

Spray bombs.
The price difference between buying the material in quarts vs rattle cans isn't nearly enough to recoup the cost of buying a sprayer, unless you're doing dozens of cars. Even if you are you were, you wouldn't want a $120 consumer-grade machine because it's not built to last or serviceable. Plus with rattle cans there's no need to buy, handle or store any solvent (generally regarded as nasty stuff) or spend your time cleaning a gun. You just toss the can and call it a day.

Back of the engine on a v8, most likely a valley pan which is under the intake manifold. e34's are known to have bad heater cores but that would be leaking inside the car. Otherwise there are some 2 coolant hoses that go to the heater core in the engine bay. Id inspect the valley pan and go from there. If no leak is visually seen there then pressure test the system and inspect.
Are you talking about #5 in the diagram?

Nope id use the press to push old out and new in, much easier and faster.
That is what I am hoping. Going to start this project next week.

I glad to hear his BOV sounds exactly like mine. Flutter then pissssssshhh. I think more pissshhh and less flutter is the winning combo though.
Thanks for the input everyone. From what I had gathered it was a difficult thing to do but I just wanted more specifics. The post was deleted so I guess it was sold anyways, wasn't able to make a move fast enough.
First, the swap has been done before, and theres plenty of information on it, google is your friend.
Second, if you are unsure about rebuilding an engine, a swap is probably out of the question
FYI I cleaned it when I replaced the intake boot to ICV hose using that writeup. Try unplugging it and see what happens. Wouldn't doubt if there are more vacuum leaks either.
