I have a '95 318is, it has this idling problem where it revs up and down from 1000 to 2000 rpms. I heard that and new idle control vavle can do the trick. Do you guys know if this is true? and does anyone know if for e36's, if a idle control valve from a 328i is compatible with 318i? Also if anyone has a idle control valve for sale for a 318, please let me know:).

      m42 correct?

I could see the ICV being the problem for sure, you should just be able to clean your current one. And no I do not believe a 328 ICV would work.

Try unplugging your ICV. If your car revs up and holds it it's definitely the problem. That or a vacuum leak somewhere.

FYI I cleaned it when I replaced the intake boot to ICV hose using that writeup. Try unplugging it and see what happens. Wouldn't doubt if there are more vacuum leaks either.
