Brian, my tuning pitchfork is currently resting in the garage.
I shall brandish my axle nut shovel for this discussion. You are an engineer, and it saddens me that you are subscribing to the theory of the lock plate being used as a washer to ensure the nut doesn't rotate. In your assemblies do you not use lock nuts when you are doing sheet metal? Because the sheet metal would deform and capture the nut, in your theory.Though that depends on the type of metal used.
I could easily remove an axle nut with the lock plate behind it. But if you put it on the proper way (over the nut) you cannot even get a socket on it. That bad boy is locked in there.

FWIW: mine were put on incorrectly by the PO. ("Washers" behind nut) I spun them off with an impact, bent tabs and all

To end this all check out my snap chat tech tips. Bring your own beer

It's all put back together. Everything is torqued besides the axle nutzz

You guys are correct. My memory sucks and I suck.
Back to my mound of cocaine....
It's okay sir. I shall now retire my shovel for further axle nut discussions.
Seriously, whoever doesn't have Mr. Kaiser on snapchat is/was missing out. His series of "tech tips" was causing me to have uncontrollable laughter last night.

My favorite was the PB Blaster one=)
That one and the one regarding finally giving up on tech tip numbers.
.....and the spray cans on the shelf.
...and the one about keeping old hardware.
Many of these hit home apparently lol. -
Got the subframe in & steering rack
Subframe needed some persuasion

Steering rack needed a tad of persuasion too. E36 rack/tierods

-
Tomorrow I'll be taking the rear most subframe bolts out again so I can get the ST sway bar on. Also going to try and get the control arms on
-
Sway bar is mounted and torqued

Got the control arm offset bushings on (pain in the ass because of the taper)

I'll most likely pop those in tomorrow. After they are in I'll be dropping the engine back onto the subframe so I can get the support bar out of the way. Then it'll be on to the rear subframe
For anyone who was curious about the ST sway bar hardware here's a picture. Way beefier Than the oem stuff. Washer has a gap due to this shit being 28 years old

Also does anyone have any use for these rear trailing arm sway bar mount reinforcements (and bushing brackets)?? I already had these reinforcements.

If you pay postage they're yours
