Swapped all the idler pulleys and the Rouge Engineering under drive pulleys to the new motor.

Slowly chipping away on getting the M3 motor back in. Rear main, gear selector, and transmission input shaft seals all done.
We all know the drill. Pop a hole.

Screw it in.

Needed a bigger screw. And slide hammer it out.

Rear main and pilot bearing all snugged up.

Old shift selector seal.

New one installed.

Transmission input seal.

Next to do is the throw out bearing and clutch fork pivot plastic thing. Pop on the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate. Then mate up the motor and trans. After that it's SMG time!!

How much of a bear is it to pull the selector shaft seal out without scratching the bore? SOP with e30 guys is usually to embed the old seal further into the trans by hammering it in with a 12mm-ish socket and then put the new one in without the risk of gouging the seal bore.

It wasn't too hard. Just took my time and didn't apply too much pressure.

Flywheel time!
Took a scotch bright pad and lightly went over the surface.

Torqued down the new bolts to 105NM.

One car garage problems...



Picking up new exhaust manifold gaskets and nuts from BMW today. Not too much to do after I swap over the headers.
Install to-do:
- Headers
- O2 Sensors
- Swap passenger side motor mount arm
- Loosely bolt up motor mounts
- Pressure plate
- Clutch fork, pivot pin, throw-out bearing
- Bolt on Trans to torque spec
- Bolt on SMG systemBundle up and install motor. Outside. In a Wisconsin winter.

Header time!




Took off the headers and labeled both sides of the O2 sensors on both motors with different color zipties.












The old one is on the stand. New one on the ground.

Judging by that dent, you had some header clearance issues, huh?
That dent is scientifically designed via heat and a BFH to clear the control arm lollipop.
The dent and the grinded down motor mount are due to Kummrow over tightening the motor mount arm (when they reinstalled my headers they took off the motor mount while scratching off a lot of the ceramic coating from trying to jam them in there. Their fix for the ceramic coating was black spray paint.) to block bolts, having them loosen up leading to the breaking of the aluminum motor mount arm and the motor sitting on the steering rack. I couldn't tell it was broken while in the car so I grinded down the arm to make it fit unknowingly doing unnecessary work. Ugh.

Got the transmission all ready to go.
Did some maintenance while it was out. Springs and things were replaced as well as a new clutch fork plastic pivot and throw out bearing.

Next spring to be replaced:

A little sealant

Installed and on to the next one. I got a new aluminum plug.

All done with springs and things

Clutch fork all set.

The other parts next to be installed. Trans mounts, header gaskets and nuts.
