Brian, I just ordered the tool for the fan and can help you get that off.

These radiators really lose a lot of flow when they age. I never overheated in day to day driving but the car was HOT on the track. A new radiator is being ordered as part of this build.

When new, the rads work very good and they are only about 175 bucks new.

I think I should have said new a few more times in this post

Ha ! ... I didn't mean it that way .. I was pointing out my awful grammar ...

Jeff, that sensor goes in the rad where the aux fan temp sensors were ?? Am I thinking of that correctly ??

yes in the radiator where the aux fan sensor goes. take the sensor out go to lowes or napa and get the adaptor so you can thred it in the radiator. the sensor is 1/8npt thred.

I have a 16" slim fit spal puller on my e30 with the relay kit from bimmerworld if you need any more advice.. wired it up to the AC temp switch on radiator so that it kicks on right when the coolant needle passes half way..

I ran a 16" pusher in front of my m20 radiator with the m50 swap, rarely need to use it But its a great thing to have in case.

Would have ran it as a puller, but it wouldn't fit between the radiator and the motor..... Lol.

Sent from the future. Or my phone, who knows.

I'm using this switch BMW# 61318361787  and just took out the mech fan.  It's 80/88 degree C instead of 91/99 C.  Only comes on low speed occasionally when idling for a long time in hot weather.  Easy and only need to buy the different switch.

Edit: I should clarify, mostly stock M50 with 88c thermostat.  Usually runs about 195 - 200 F on autometer gauge at factory sender location in head.  Never seen it above 210 even idling in very hot weather.

So I ended up ordering a reversible fan and did end up having to mount it as a pusher but that also means I can spin the mechanical fan on if needed. Thanks for the help on this guys.

I've no idea what you're referring to. I'm gunna take a blind shot in the dark, an say it's referring to cooling fan clutch bolt? I got that out ages ago. I'll be running a bigger radiator (griffin raditator) That'll be pushed further forward into the front rad. support. So I'll have PLENTY of room for a puller fan, or 2 and a custom shroud.

I used the claw end of a hammer to hold it in place... it was also -15 in January when my fan deleted itself and I needed to replace my water pump and radiator.  You can also keep the accessory belt wrapped around the fan clutch and hold it tight then undo the bolt.  That works sometimes as well.

Or spend $20 on the tool.
