friend thought I was playing a prank saying I have to replace my mirror fluid. Cursed with the infamous dimming mirror delaminating and evaporating/leaking. Decided to take the DIY approach rather than send it off to save a few bucks. Ended up being a super easy 30 min project and looks brand new. Mirror link

Found my first moist surprise. Went to go disconnect the battery to start installing my headers, and my flashlight caught a little reflection. Turns out the passenger tail light lens was slightly detached, allowing water in
Thank god it didn't rust through the metal and I was able to wire wheel, clean, naval jelly rust dissolve and rust converter it. Finally I tried adding some etching primer to try to match the factory finish best I could. Probably not perfect but helps me sleep at night.

Did trans fluid change, oil change, cabin air filter and intake filter change and took it out for a quick shakedown this weekend. Of course found more broken stuff. Ordered UUC trans mounts and all new bushings/gaskets for the shifter carrier to go with the UUC EVO 3 when I install it. Rotors seemed a bit warped too with heavy braking, dang.

I’m not a huge S54 guy because of the typical sound of them, but that video right there changed my mind.

All videos with really good sounding S54s are deepfakes of an E36 M3 with a pitch adjustment /s
It is entirely possible to have a great sounding S54 but I have yet to find a quiet setup that sounds good enough to spend money on. Loud enough to actually hear it while driving but quiet enough to hear the induction sound and not be a nuissance.
When you see inside the stock muffler its a bit baffling at how they arrived at such a design.

Most of the nice sounding ones are running catless headers+resonators with an aftermarket muffler and are just stupid loud. It seems that adding back quieter mufflers just seems to cut the noise but maintain the rasp, which is exactly what I would want to get away from. I wonder if going to quad resonators, x-pipe, catless headers, and a moderately quiet muffler would be the solution?
Have any pics of said muffler guts?

Interestingly the Z4M seems to have better luck with muffler options that sound good.
The stock exhaust sound isnt BAD, it is unique if not just a little bit exotic, but it isnt a sound that gives James May a fizzing sensation.
The risk comes with modified exhaust as you can really ruin it, making it worse than stock.
