Kyle picked up my block today, so hopefully that will go smooth this week. Then I'll assemble the engine and start dropping her in the car.

Here it is on an e21. I think it will look great with the flares.

Well, looks like I am in the market for some slightly oversize pistons and rings. 😕 one piston gouged the cylinder wall pretty bad and the rings in every cylinder were broken.

Anyone have or know of any slightly oversized pistons for sale? At least 0.020" oversize, but nothing ridiculous. Just enough to get the cylinders smooth again and ready to rock.

I used Maxsil pistons sourced from bavauto for my m50.  They are available in a couple oversizes, mine cleaned up at .020"/ .50mm over.  Pretty reasonably priced and they come with the rings.

Looks like bavauto doesn't carry MaxSil pistons for the m20. They said there were issues with them, so they haven't stocked them for awhile. All they have are mahle .50mm pistons for $100 and so more than the MaxSil. 😕

OEM pistons for my M42 were really expensive. I was wary of the Maxsil ones, so I ordered some custom forged ones. Roughly the same price as OEM (a little cheaper actually), but they should be lighter, and you can get whatever compression ratio you want. I'd think that M20 pistons would be more common than M42, but it's still probably going to cost you.. $$$

Did you ask BavAuto about Mahle pistons? They have .5mm oversize listed on their website for about the same price as the MaxSil:

                      http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp?HC1=0&htarget=asgridyearmodel.asp&Hecode=&hdept_id=3&HCY=1990&HCM=325i

n/m just re-read your post :facepalm

Yeah, their Mahle pistons are $200 more than the Maxsil ones. I found a lower mileage block in IL that I might just go pick up. A lot cheaper than oversize pistons.

This is the route you should go.  TCD sold me Imagineering 9.2-1 pistons and has nothing but the best things to say about this guy.  I guess he is a crazy mad BMW scientist!

Picked up a great condition long block from Illinois today. Once my gasket/seal kit comes in, things will start moving on this build. I'm happy about that!

Went over to Brian's (Snap) house yesterday to use his oven for my oil pan and valve cover. He Blasted them and I powder coated them. I am happy with how they turned out.
