When the 1990 was still streetable I had the e21 transmission mounts (w/o cups) and the BW engine mounts (probably same as the e24 in terms of hardness)

If you go with the e21/e24 combo watch for Garagistic's Black Friday sale coming up later this month, here's the current listing but they usually have some good BF deals. If you sign up with them you get early notification of deals

To those with e30s who drive theirs pretty frequently with the occasional spirited driving session and maybe some autocross: what engine and transmission mounts do you have?

I think you're on the wrong forum for this question.....

Garagistic does offer a ton of sales, so that's a good idea. I saw their kit and was going to get that, but found the same mounts (searching part numbers) on RM European for $8ea.

lol. I have noticed that many of the cars here are on jack stands.

          I should rephrase that question:

To those who have driven their car at some point while in their ownership...

Just my two cents, but for a street car I’d go for the HD OEM stuff if I were you. Usually not very expensive, it should last a long time, it’ll make the car more pleasant to drive, and you really don’t have to worry about fitment or quality like with some aftermarket stuff. Obviously, if it’s gonna see track time that doesn’t apply and I’m of absolutely no help, but for what it’s worth I’ve been nothing but pleased with every OEM bushing I’ve put onto my car (except for rear shock mounts, the stockers suck wiener). Other people will be better sources for info for autox stuff, but this is my recommendation for a car capable of spirited driving.

I ordered the e21 and e24 mounts. I think they'll do the job. I would like to get into some autocross next year, but I'm guessing it will be fine.

I intend to almost daily this next summer, so I would like it to be as comfortable and quiet as it can be while still being great for a spirited cruise.

Good night sweet prince. Put it up on jack stands for the winter to address everything. Also trying to figure out the culprit for the p0171/4 code on the e46. Not the disa valve!

Every time I look at these pictures I find the Volvo flag ironic.

So my front bumper was always a little out of alignment. The PS stuck out further and there was a gap. Can see it here kind of.

Took it off and found these with the mounts. Looks like someone was a little too aggressive when towing the car at some point. 20181104145656.jpg

After beating on it with a sledge hammer it's much improved, but still a little ways to go.

Well, car has been parked for a couple weeks now and last night I noticed a small wet spot on the ground towards the back of the engine. And of course there is oil coming out of the weep hole on the bottom engine cover piece. 😒

I guess I'll add RMS to the list for the winter. I had replaced it while the engine was out, but I'm going to use the OEM seal this time. It's annoying, because I would check it almost every time after I drove it and never noticed any leaks back there.

Lame. Cars tend to leak more if they sit for a long period of time vs. driving a lot. Sadly I know this is a fact.

Started tearing into it tonight by removing the exhaust. Back half is toast.

And then snapped one of the studs on the rear manifold. Soooo, if anyone has a rear exhaust manifold for an m20b25, let me know!!!!!

Im glad that this car is being revived. There's not many cars that can give you the kind of driving experience that an E30 can.

The little bit I drove it this year was wonderful. Looking forward to getting a little more power/driveability out of it. Going to do a lightened flywheel while the transmission is out and then a chip.

Does anyone here have a lightened flywheel, and how low did you go?

I like clamping force so I never take any material off the front face. I have had the ring on the backside machined down which got it down in the 12.5 lb range. It came with a tiny bit of gear rattle when idling in neutral but nothing horrible.

There will never be enough power. Dont be fooled by the power trap. I dont regret doing a turbo or the 24V swap but if I could do it again I think I would be happy with a 2.8 stroker, ITBs, coated headers, a mild cam, and megasquirt.  The lower weight, response, and ease of repair and reliability (assuming megasquirt is setup and dialed in properly) are just the thing an E30 needs to be complete

I saw that one in the other thread and that's what got me thinking about doing it. But at 7lbs, is that too much racecar and make for difficult daily duty?

I would never want to remove the clamping face of the flywheel.

And I picked up the e30 to get out of the power trap. I've had a few cars where my goal is power power power and it's either A) never enough or 😎 it's too much and unnecessary.

I picked the e30 because it's RWD and manual and for some reason have wanted to do an NA build after having all turbo cars. As I've worked on this car I have really grown to appreciate the M20 and the mechanical nature of the car. I really want to keep the M20 and maximize it. I feel like it needs a touch more power, and I think with the chip and some of these other bolt ons to improve the overall feel of the car it will be what I want. But I have 2 kids, I don't need a car anymore who's power band is only fun at 100+ mph (main reason I got rid of the S60R).

I also have a habit of picking up a car and then instantly modifying it to the point where it's a totally different car. Another reason I wanted to leave it mostly stock. I want to really learn how the car drives and be really good at driving it, before making it something different.

I have never had issue with high clamping force clutches and lightweight flywheels. Does the rattle get annoying if it's in neutral with the clutch pedal let out? Kinda, but who cares.
I also ran unsprung discs on unsprung flywheels, never was bothered by that either.

Nothing is more fun than a super free revving engine that is happy to take abusive rev matched downshifts.

All that said, do what you think you will like most, I frequently find myself enjoying the raw mechanical side of things, that may not be the same for you!

                                          ...
