If there is no relo assistance then I would SERIOUSLY think about the pros n cons. Thats a huge financial and emotional burden to take on for a lateral move. I would definitely aim for assistance. A u haul for that move is going to be around $600 plus the cost of a realtor and gas/food/hotel to take trips to find a place to live, etc. I would say the move is going to cost at least $1500 and more if you have to get storage until you find a residence, stay in an extended stay hotel or throw money at rent.
Longevity is great and the opportunity for growth is wonderful but fuzzy feelings aside for the co-workers, if your 2 year plan doesn't recoup your investment plus a return in 5 then the move is a hardship and unnecessary.
Thats my devils advocate piece for the day.
It isn't a completely lateral move, about 2$/hr. But that isn't a huge amount. The big thing is that the job is a junior controls engineer which is the direction I want to go. Currently I am a controls and instrumentation tech. It is good that my wife is insistent on what you said about needing to pay off in less than 2 years. We balance each other

As promised!
So that last picture is what he sent me after he got it back, I am actually not sure if it was like that before or not. He had drilled those holes way out and there was almost no material left in there lol.

Back story is that I was interested in the oil filter housing he posted. I told him I would do cash and a stock one. When I got his I knew it wasn't right and wanted to send it back to him. So I wasn't going to send him the one that was part of the deal, as I wanted to reverse the deal.

The whole thermostat thing wouldn't have been a huge deal expect for the fact that you cannot get just a thermostat. The OEM part number is for the assembly, including a thermostat.

I think the correct terminology is a check valve. It's holds oil in the filter housing to prevent a dry start. A coworker recalls buying them online somewhere for like $5 but doesn't remember where. It looks like you are missing some material there. What motor is this off of? The housing I posted is from a M54 for reference.

The housing is from an S52 Euro, or S54 as they both use the same housing and a factory oil cooler.
It is not a check valve, it is a thermostat. It lets ~10% of the oil past it when the oil is not at temp. and once the oil gets to temp it opens the thermostat and diverts ~90% of the oil through the cooler.
The check valve for these is right under the actual filter.
Edit: is that a picture of the block? M54's don't have metal OFH's to the best of my knowledge. I have only seen plastic ones on them. -
That white and gold housing is from a 06 X3 M54B30.

Well it's a deal. I am leaving the great state of Wisconsin. Moving to Austin, MN area. I am now a senior electronic technician for our Engineering R&D group. I think this will be a fun job, basically a junior controls engineer.
Now to sell my house... Anyone want to move to Platteville? Everything redone on the house, nice warm garage with 60A 240 service...
