How much will it cost to swap my e46 m3 motor, tranny differential ecu everything to have the car running cost?

With all the programming/wiring you need to do your looking at probably $5-6k at a shop

Its an estimate. If you want an exact figure call a shop. But i assume you dont have anything xlose to that amount of cash or you would of bought a replacment by now.

From what I have seen people have found it to be way more work than it is worth.

That would be the low end of labor. Any way you dice it, it would only be worth it if you do it yourself to take on the challenge.

Much more painful than a swap in a honda. That stuff is plug and play. Let's just say putting everything into an e46 is probably just as complicated as an LS swap into an e46

GUYS! Whats wrong with Standalone ecu? The swap is basically plug and play, and then you have to wire up a standalone to your s54. You keep the stock e46 ECU to control all the canbus dash stuff, and use standalone ecu to drive the s54. 

Megasquirt is fully capable of controlling dual vanos, and its very affordable. Otherwise if you want easy, there is PNP standalones for s54. 

There is threads on BF.C about the whole stock e46 ecu for dash.

No offense to Jay but I wouldn't refer to a standalone as easy for the op.  He just asked if it was like a Honda swap.

You have no idea how many wires are in the dashboard.  My obd1 e36 body harness fills 2 5 gal buckets.  Not to mention the newer ones have canbus type communication between different computers which need to be programmed rather than just splicing some wires.

You don't need to mess with canbus and all that jaz.

Look into e46 lsx swap wiring. They have it figured out for sure.

You can buy a pnp unit and anyone can tune it. I bet jay could accomplish it.
