A great ‘secret’ Secret Santa surprise. Thanks guys! Seriously.

PS: it’s possible that the first one was not infact from my girlfriend’s sister. We’ll never know.

    Merry Christmas!

Longtime N54 fanboy checking in. With shame and excitement, I've recently bought my first N55-powered vehicle. I'm ready for this slight uptick in reliability.

For the past month, I've been searching nationwide for what I consider the "perfect" E70 X5. That criteria included the following:

    • Had to be the 35i (N55) instead of the 50i (N63, very unreliable)
    • Had to have M-Sport Package (///M body kit, interior trim, etc.)
    • Had to have Cold Weather Package (heated front and rear seats, etc.)
    • Had to have Convenience Package (keyless entry/start, rear view camera, etc.)
    • Had to have Technology Package (heads-up display, side view cameras, etc.)
    • Had to have a heated steering wheel
    • Had to have paddle shifters
    • Had to be a 2013 (because LCI and this was the only year you could get M-Sport, heated steering wheel & paddle shifters together)
    • Couldn't be silver, bronze or brown
    • Couldn't have white or gray interior
    • Couldn't have any reported accidents
    • Mileage and location didn't matter
    • Budget was $25k after travel, taxes, registration, etc.

Eventually someone on XBimmers shared a link to a carbon black X5 at a random Ford dealership in the middle of nowhere, Missouri. They had a single-owner 2013 X5 35i that met all of my criteria. I inquired and found out that it was on consignment through the dealership. The owner of the dealership was trying to help sell his best friend's wife's car. After running the VIN, I found it also had premium sound, soft-close doors and front/rear PDC.

I arranged a quick 3rd party inspection through LemonSquad for $200. The inspection report came back good, so I got a quote for transportation through a friend of a friend on Facebook (Tri-Logistics). $1,000 delivered to my door in an enclosed trailer? Sure. I arranged for pickup on Monday and he delivered it to my house at 11:30pm the same day! I didn't expect such a huge truck and trailer to show up at my house, I should've told him I was the guy waiting for the white Lambo 😆

He unloaded it and went on his way. I drove it for the first time yesterday and it's everything I was hoping it'd be. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

I'd like to participate, but I've gotten the same E92 M3 remote control car for two years in a row...

Looks like I got to participate without even participating!

As a recent Amazon Prime member, I've been ordering a handful of things from Amazon this month. Christmas presents, personal items, etc. Yesterday there were two boxes from Amazon on my porch. This is the norm at my house, so I didn't think much of it and opened them. To my surprise, not only one, but TWO BMW E92 M3 remote control cars! These ones are black and a little smaller than the two white ones I've received via WIBimmers Secret Santa 2015 & 2016.

What makes this even funnier is that a random package showed up a few days ago which I wasn't expecting (again from Amazon). I opened it up and to my surprise it was a black remote control M3, the SAME as the two I just received. My girlfriend found out that her sister accidentally sent it to my house on accident and that it was supposed to be my Christmas gift. I laughed as she asked why I didn't seem excited. I had to explain that I've been getting these for Christmas for two years in a row already. Am I that hard to buy for?!

Now I have a total of 5 remote control BMW E92 M3s... first world problems 😆

I'll post a picture, but might wait to see if I get any more (you never know). Thanks guys!

I finally saved up enough $$$$ and picked up an engine from a local junkyard.

    370644822237a12c18ec3c.jpg

It came out of a 2008 335i 6MT with 91,223 miles. The car was hit pretty hard on the driver's side, so I'm not worried about flood damage or anything like that. It was also modified, so I'm hoping it was taken care of by an enthusiast.

I've noticed all index 11 injectors, an RB PCV valve/cap, and it looks spotless under the oil cap. No sludge, grime, buildup, or discoloration. Hoping this is a sign of frequent oil changes.

Hoping to start tearing the car apart so I can remove the blown motor and swap everything over before the end of the year!

My buddy came over and finished pulling the motor on Friday night. I removed the twin turbos on Saturday morning to be shipped to their new owner. Sad, because they had less than 500 miles on them.

It depends on insurance.  I had a guy turn in front of me and totalled my Maxima and his insurance company just took total fault and paid me more than I expected with no questions asked.  Also had my Volvo roll in a parking lot while I was in Wisconsin and hit another car and my insurance didn't go up even though they had to pay out to the other person and for a new headlight and bumper repair on my car.  The cop doing the report was a little confused "so neither vehicle was occupied when the accident occurred?"

    1. I doubt the deer's insurance agent is going to assume 100% fault for him/her.
    2. Neither vehicle being occupied is what saved you there.

He can go through the process and see what happens, but at least he's better informed now. I've given my best advice based on my own personal experiences.

Walnut blasted the valves on the new motor so I didn't have to break my back and remove the intake manifold later.

After lusting over the F80 M3 and F82 M4 for years, I finally found myself in the position to purchase one. I didn’t want to settle on just any F8X, I needed the perfect one.

Since I already have a BMW 135i for the track and a BMW 335i for daily duties, I wanted a modern weekend warrior. I found myself leaning towards the M3 because of its wide rear hips and the practicality of a 4-door sedan.

After searching nationwide for about a month with no luck, an M3 that matched my criteria popped up in Madison! Meet my 14th BMW, but my first ///M...

    2015 BMW M3 with 46K miles

    • Mineral Grey Metallic
    • Black Extended Merino Leather
    • Manual Transmission (6MT)
    • Driver Assistance Plus
    • Executive Package
    • Lighting Package
    • Adaptive suspension
    • Carbon Fiber Roof
    • Harman Kardon Surround Sound System

It's stock right now but I have a boatload of modifications on the way. I'll be working with Kies Motorsports and a few other companies for this M3 build. My vision is a functional, good-looking weekend car. But knowing me, I'll probably blow right past that 😆

Some of you might already watch my BMW YouTube videos (just hit 26K subscribers!), but I'll be documenting this build on my channel as well. I'll also be posting exclusive high quality photos on my Instagram. I'd encourage anyone who is interested to subscribe/follow on those platforms as well. I usually post on YouTube/IG first, then follow up on the forums as I have time to type up written content.

I've had a few people reach out to me asking to check back into WIBimmers... and I realized it's been way too long since I've updated this thread. So much has happened since my last update a year and a half ago.

My Instagram and YouTube channel are where I post most of my content. Be sure to follow/subscribe if you're interested in keeping up with my BMW builds!

I'm currently in talks with Billiam Mason (BMB Autowerks) about a built engine. The 135i engine is finally ticking/knocking internally after all of the 750+whp abuse. My goal is to get something that can handle 900whp and maaaaaybe throw a bigger turbo on it. He recommended a 6875 Gen 2.

Here are a few pictures/videos to enjoy.

Larger inlets and outlets are on. Coolant pipe, water pump, thermostat reinstalled with new hoses. Power steering pump and intercooler reinstalled. Downpipes attached and O2 sensors connected. Subframe secured with new motor mounts. Hoping to connect vacuum lines and tidy up some loose ends tonight. Should be able to start it after adding oil, coolant and power steering fluid.
