I don't know the word nerd terms, but I think the distinction is who's doing the work. If I use a plane, then I'm the planer, not the tool. If I stick a board in a machine and it does the planing for me, then it's the planer and I'm the planer operator. I think in Dan's example the tool is a hand plane and he's a hand planer. Words...

Found a nice spreadsheet with lots of good data on Bosch injectors. Still reading and learning, but as far as I can tell these are the best injector for a mildly boosted M42 that Bosch has ever made. Plug-and-play. As you've probably guessed though, they aren't especially cheap. Ask your friends; maybe they have some used ones sitting on the shelf that they're sick of looking at. I was not suggesting that ARP stud kits are inferior to TTY bolts.  I was stating that I though TTY bolts would be better than just picking 12.9 bolts.  No background was given about intended use or modification from stock. Stockish engine, use TTY because they clearly work well.  Significantly beyond stock engine use ARP.  That would be my thoughts.

Ended up ordering the M20 RHD flywheel. It looks like the solution to the clutch conundrum comes from an S14, although ECS still can't seem to decide whether the disc is sprung or not... [image: OKlAKkj.png] Edit: I guess it should be noted here that, according to the internet, the M20 flywheel, clutch and throwout bearing stack is slightly shorter than the M42 setup, which is why the longer e21 323i throwout bearing is normally required. Aaaaand the ring gear is different, which requires an M20 starter. Once I have everything in-hand I intend to assemble it all on the bench to make sure everything lines up between the stock M42 stuff and my hodge-podge setup.

I will NEVER buy another Horror Freight jack EVER again. I jacked up the passenger front corner, had the jack stand at the ready to place under seam and was momentarily distracted by a wild phone call (probably some hot tail at the time) when I hung up and went to finish putting the stand in the proper place the BRAND NEW jack had drifted down under the weight of my 5'er and put a very LARGE crunch into the lower door sill [image: :(] into my pristine rust free California fresh door sill! I pitched that jack, bought an AC hydraulics jack, made in the Netherlands!, and never looked back. It was expensive, actually very expensive, BUT three lessons learned that day; never trust a big butt and a smile, always have your mind and eyes on your work AT ALL TIMES and invest in quality tools (unless in a pinch, then the left handed cable stretcher will do)

Saw you driving again yesterday. I cant begin to tell you how stoked I was to see teh big winter tires on your car.

I have had great luck with either Rob's Imports or ATF Tire.  They are both in Kaukauna.  Great prices and clean, trustworthy work.  Both places have mounted several sets of street tires, winter tires, and R compounds, and I have never had a single problem......  Even with ugly 19 inch Pirelli R compounds!!  I believe both places are about $20 per tire for mounting.

Do you know solidworks? Regardless of if you do or not, I may have a side job for you.  I need to develop a remote control (wired) for hydraulics control.  This would literally bolt over 3 handles and a knob and control them.  It's a little out of my wheelhouse. If this is something that might be of interest, shoot me a PM.
