I'm surprised to see the front lip still attached, and what appears like an un-taped sunroof seal!
I look forward to seeing it with fresh paint though!
I was just discussing with my roommate how I miss painting stuff, prep work is somehow very enjoyable!

I'm ditching the black along the bottom of the car and will have the door and bumper trims be the main "accent".

The sunroof doesn't work right now. The lever is off the car and it needs to be adjusted. I was planning on removing the sunroof panel when this is done to do a new seal and to adjust the panel - you can see it's not sitting flush on the roof.

Sanding hasn't been terrible. Using the long durablocks has been very annoying since there are a lot of horizontal breaks in the car panels to get some good motions. I've been doing the vast majority of it by hand. That I find enjoyable. I like being able to feel the car as I sand it.

            Some questions about my sunroof:

The car came with the handle removed and I never really looked into it. So I’m trying to figure out where I’m at with it.

            Here’s what I have:

            411B662D-7463-434D-B761-3B610B93741E.jpeg

            2A2FA1B2-36AF-4AA0-ABDA-B9B9876854E5.jpeg

I tried putting what pieces I have back together into the crank assembly but all of the gears where very loose. Is there supposed to be a gear on both sides of the crank assembly? And looking at this picture, it looks like there’s a gear I’m missing. Like there’s a smaller gear inside the hollow gear that I have.

Not knowing much about these: do I just get the crank and install that or do I buy the whole thing with the cables and everything as one large assembly.

Looks like there is only one gear. Found a better pic of the assembly:

So I just wonder now if I assume the remaining assembly is okay and just replace this or the whole thing.

To remove this assembly, apparently called a cassette, you have to remove the front headliner panel, and in order to remove the front headliner panel, you have to open the sunroof. So that’s fun. Apparently there’s an emergency crank for sunroofs, but I can’t find any info on it or how to do it.

on second thought you have a manual sunroof so this might be different. Sorry

That is for a power sunroof. So the emergency key isn’t for manual sunroofs. I found that what I’m missing is this little gear here:

                        7C4E06F7-FF7D-4449-A58B-94C8C3925358.jpeg
As you turn the handle, the little tooth on there catches the tooth on the inside of the gear that drives the gear to open and close the sunroof. So I need to source one of those. I am assuming that the handle broke - as appears to be very common - and the PO removed the handle and this stuff fell apart. I’m crossing my fingers the whole mechanism still works once I get the crank back together.

Ebay prices are ridiculous, do people actually pay that much for those?? I have an entire manual sunroof mechanism that worked perfectly when pulled that I have absolutely zero use for since neither of my cars have a sunroof. I'll PM you.

Sanding is 99% done! I did some touch up with 320, then 400 everything, and then a quick once-over with 600. After cleaning everything up I found a couple spots that need a little attention, but all in all it's done. I cleaned up the garage, blew it out, took down all the plastic and started taking off some of the masking. Next up is to put up new plastic and masking. I plan to paint everything not on the car first and then paint the car a different night to keep paint dust from collecting on parts to a minimum.

And @m42b32 to the rescue! I'll be able to at least use this to see if my sunroof still works, and if it doesn't, I can swap in this working mechanism. Saved me a ton of money so it is very greatly appreciated.
