Has anyone done the Z3 fixed antenna conversion on their e30?  Reason I ask is that the Z3 grommet (#65218389698) is too small/loose on my 318is to the point that i can easily push the entire thing through the hole in the body. The R3v threads on this always talk about the grommet being a tight fit and mine is anything but. Slathered around it with black RTV for now to try and get a watertight seal but wondering if there is a different grommet I should be using. Posted the question on R3v but figured maybe someone here has insight?

      someone said:

The next thing you will need is a grommet to hold the base in place. When i called the dealer and asked for the grommet for a z3, they told me there were 4 different types. So i asked about the grommet for the 318ti and they had that one so i used it. It works perfectly and i don't know the difference between it and the ones from the z3.

      maybe this answers your question?

4 different types... lovely. I obviously got the wrong one. Thanks!

I did this on the e28 and although I can't help with the grommet as it was a long time ago. I did kill a bunch of batteries in the car as the Z3 part that hooks to power draws all the time. Just a heads up.

Yeow. Thanks for this. Just did a quick search and the issue with constant draw seems to be the red power wire. Luckily I used the white.
