533i will not start sometimes

My 533i on a cold start is acting like it is not getting fuel. When I let it sit it suddenly starts as if fuel is getting in. I replaced the fuel filter and it now starts a little better but does not always start. Has anyone had this happen? Plugs were replaced also.

You will likely be looking at the cold start valve (7th fuel injector) or the temperature sensor that correlates to the csv. Start by testing those items / acquire a service manual to do so

Wait... 7th injector? It's a 1984 533i. There are only 6 injectors. Excuse my ignorance but I am guessing the coldstart valve is obviously separate but called the 7th injector?

Cold start injector, ecu temp sensor, speed and reference sensors, maf. If you have a Bentley manual it has steps for walking through and diagnosing all the likely culprits.

Correct. Its a more common name for the cold start injector on a k-jetronic/CIS injection system (called the fifth injector on a 4cyl etc) Apologies for being confusing
