Give us some details to work with..

They texted me this morning about my Ford Escape for sale and asked my lowest price. Then told me they had $1000 to spend. I agreed and we were supposed to meet at a Piggly Wiggly by my house at 11am this morning.

Sooo... pretty much like 50% of all craigslist buyers? I can understand if you're upset, but not if you're surprised...

Not surprised, it's happened before. I'm just disappointed in humanity. I hope this person gets hit by a snow plow.

Think of the bright side. At least you didn't meet him half way and he turned into a no-show
-
Thats why I never agree to meet someone far from home if I am a seller.
And if they want to meet half way, suddenly im coming from Canada so I dont have to drive as far as them when they dont show up.
Honestly if he stopped responding and you are that pissed, what you do is make a fake Craigslist ad with his number. List a Ford Escape in great condition, for sale at a a good deal and make sure the ad DOESNT look fake. If it gets flagged keep reposting. While he is getting calls every 5 mins from your ad, ask him if he is still interested in your vehicle repeatedly. He will respond sooner or later, but it my just be him crying for you to make it stop.
**(bonus- make more fake ads for a quick response)**

This is a tough one. Folks have been watching too many car shows where an asking price means little, there is an immediate jump to "what's the lowest you'll take", and then that becomes the starting point to push the price down further with more emails or texts. All of this takes place before the buyer shows up. I usually list a price obo but do no further negotiation unless the buyer shows up in person....and ignore the rants in the meantime.

The WI Bimmer group and enthusiasts in general spoil us since we have the sense that we're dealing with folks who care about the model /brand /activity and by extension are likely to be reasonable and honest people to deal with. Of course this doesn't help when we're trying to sell a nonenthusiast item to a broader market.
No shows are a pain and I'm sorry to hear you got stuck. On the plus side, your ride didn't get stolen and you didn't get shot. Too many instances these days of a buyer showing up with a "friend" who drove him there and the buyer gets in in your ride and both take off. The getting shot can happen in a variation of the above or when you show up to purchase. A student of mine had a family member killed and ripped off in MI last year when he showed up to sell a car. So we follow the advice to meet in a neutral location or meet at a police station's "Safe Exchange Zone" but still stupid things happen there as well.
No answers, disappointed as well, and agree on the snowplow. A friend of mine was snagged by a passing plow truck blade when getting into his parked car. Smacked him pretty good. Lucky he was a big guy or he would of been done for.

Looked up something on google maps, got side tracked and started wandering around in the satellite images.... I am on google maps installing lowering springs on my e30 in my parent's driveway sometime in summer of 2015. You can even see that the hood was open!

And here is a pic from that same day, car is in the exact same spot (Later in the day so the sun was setting) with the old GMC behind it

Weird to know I was being photographed from space during that haha

A reminder that I will just throw away anything that I would have normally sold on Craigslist..
Crappy stories all around. There was another guy on here that lived down the road here in New Berlin with an E36 got swiped during a showing. When it came time to let the potential buyer test drive it and they switched seats, the second guy hopped in the drivers seat while the owner was walking around the car to the passenger seat. They were Chicago people.

I hate negotiating before seeing the vehicle but i've already set a price assuming the shitfucks i'll be dealing with are going try this but yea, it's annoying and I want this gone so i'm willing to lower my standards.
As far as safety, this is why a) i have someone nearby watching to document events and make sure im not robbed, shot or raped
I carry a gun and c) I RARELY meet people at my house and this location in particular is very visible and across the street and within very obvious view of the police department.Thank you for the empathy.
