To my knowledge the N52b30 is pretty stout. I am pretty sure that does use the electric water pump which is a known failure but you don't necessarily replace that as preventative maintenance.

Not as preventative maint, but I might suggest buying a spare of said water pump, and keeping it in the original box in the trunk. Look at ecstuning.com, print it out and then go to the BMW dealership and ask them to match the price.

Alright I want to change fluids in the X5 and I have got to the power steering fluid
In the manual it says CHF 11s
The bottle on the car says ATF oil (assuming dextron III)?
1 dealer says CHF 11s
Another dealer says ATF oil and it must be plain ATF? Not really sure what that is.
Napa says CHF 11s
What fluid goes in?
-
What color is thr cap on the resevoir? @Jeff
-
The cap is black and does not say anything
Well that doesnt help lol. Usually there's a sticker ring on it and depending on the color determines the fluid. Basically, if you have dynamic drive it takes the chf-11 and if it doesn't then it takes ATF. Run the vin if you aren't sure.

Canola oil
-
Canola oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or KY - whichever you have more of. Stick your finger in there and taste it.
Seriously, I'd call BMW NA
I didn't read this in detail, but it might be helpful for you:
-
If it doesn't have dynamic drive then it should be ATF which shouldn't be brownish yellowish obviously. The chf-11 is that color so I'd have to go with chf-11.
-
If the car took ATF fluid and I flushed it out with chf11s would that be a potential problem?
It could be but to be honest im not sure how different the properties of each fluid are to say if damage would be done to seals and other components. They're both common hydraulic fluids in othet applications. Its not like the difference between brake fluid and atf for example but I can't say with certainty if they're interchangeable if flushed.

Getting there. Waiting in centrifugal clutch and seat to come this week. Then it's just figuring out throttle and brake.

@GunMetalGrey Maybe the shike and 420 should be combined?
How much did the axle/bearing/sprocket/wheel/tire setup set you back?

It was a few hundred for the rear axle kit. It's really the only large expense I've had so far tho.

I would think not a big deal, the only problems I have read about are people putting ATF in cars with a central hydraulic system supposed to have CHF 11 and then the leveling suspension starts leaking. That was on an old 7 series though.
