It depends on insurance.  I had a guy turn in front of me and totalled my Maxima and his insurance company just took total fault and paid me more than I expected with no questions asked.  Also had my Volvo roll in a parking lot while I was in Wisconsin and hit another car and my insurance didn't go up even though they had to pay out to the other person and for a new headlight and bumper repair on my car.  The cop doing the report was a little confused "so neither vehicle was occupied when the accident occurred?"  I have USAA and they have been excellent.

      1. I doubt the deer's insurance agent is going to assume 100% fault for him/her.
      2. Neither vehicle being occupied is what saved you there.

He can go through the process and see what happens, but at least he's better informed now. I've given my best advice based on my own personal experiences.

personally, i wouldnt show your insurance that video unless they specifically fight you.

i could be off, since i wasnt there its hard to judge the circumstances and videos can be deceiving, but it looks like you didnt slow down when the deer came into view, only when it started running toward you, almost like you didnt see them standing there in the road

Yeah I'm not showing it to anyone, that's why I asked you guys not to share it. I definitely saw it and turned my hazards on while showing down, I wish you could hear that instead of the music.

But thanks for all the advice, another new car thing to learn I guess

Yea, if you need to show it, remove the audio file.

You can clearly see you putting the hazards on in the reflection on the windshield, so you do have that going for ya.

So it turns out I did lower my deductible, and the adjuster said rates don't typically go up on deer hits. Total is going to be a little over $2400, car goes in next Tuesday and its going to take a week to fix it.

He found another pair of dents I didn't even notice across the rear door and fender. I guess the deer bounced. He's also going to completely replace the mirror for me and do the A pillar the full way instead of pdr.

With only paying $500 and getting a full new drivers side and my rates not going up, I think it makes sense to use insurance here. Only downside I see at first glance is 3 weeks before the car is back, and its getting cold... I might not get it back in time to have fun with it in the boost weather.

Sounds like a good outcome. Its amazing the slightest of dents the bodywork guys can detect. One of my cars got rear ended and it blew my mind what miniscule ripples and such they pointed out on the quarter panels that I would have never detected

As long as they do a good job I'm happy with it. And the dent really is hard to see, he only noticed it because it makes a sharp line in the shop light reflection.

I’d suggest getting a few good photos of the damage for when you sell the car in case a potential buyer asks about it. Then you can say “look, ya dickhead, tis merely a flesh wound”

Its a dark color, should be fairly easy to blend.

Its a dark color, should be fairly easy to blend.

Do the A pillar the full way? You mean with body filler?

Uh, I guess so? He said the standard way, not PDR. I assumed they take the panel off and pop it out, then refinish. I can check what he wrote up on the estimate

Lol the A pillar isn't a panel, it's part of the car. It can't simply be unbolted.

Like Snap said, take some before pictures so you have something to show buyers who question the accident on CarFax. This way you have evidence that it was a minor deer hit, not a major accident.

Also, my insurance agent said my rates wouldn't go up either... liars. Good luck!
