Car is 1966, all the sites keep yelling at me about it not being 17 digits long. Not really sure if there is even a way to find the history on the car.

I have had trouble with VIN numbers on something as new as my 85 Toyota.  I think it had the right number of digits but when registering it at the DMV they couldn't look it up successfully.

                  Did you try Carfax?

I guess if you can't find it, you can proclaim it as your own. Who's gonna know if it can't be looked up???

If all goes well I should be back in an e30 sedan this weekend :)

Suspension is all sorts of odd mix-n-matched stuff (Honda springs, Cadillac shocks in the rear), and he said it has a super-eta bottom with a 2.5 head, unknown cam and it has a "lumpy idle" but it looks hella clean rust wise. I figure suspension is easy enough to replace with e30 stuff, and as long as the motor runs I can take care of any issues that arise.
