Tonight I installed the rear main seal into its carrier, protruding 1.5mm. I will wait until I install the E34 oil pan to install the carrier/seal onto the block.

Out of my own curiosity, I wanted to overlay all the BMW 2.5L engines: M20B25, M50NV, M50TU, M52B25, M54B25, N52B25 and see how the torque curve flattened over time with all the technology advancements. Instead I lost interest and threw the modded M52 data over some data for

a stock M20B25 vs. an M52B28, M50 manifold, S52 cams, intake, exhaust, stock ex. manifolds, and tune. 

I remember having fun with my stock M20 so it appears there is a little more fun in store with the M52. Next week will for sure see some significant progress as I will have some extra time, but I will keep nibbling away at things this week like I have been doing.

When the vanos hits!!  In all seriousness though it is interesting that the the hp and torque curves have a similar profile between the two engines.

I noticed that as well. The M50 manifold and S52 cams sacrifice the low end, but definitely make up for it in the higher revs

Hello turd.

Last night I replaced the clutch hardline that had rounded hardware, scrubbed the engine bay, and cut off the intercooler mounts I had welded on.

Tonight: more scrubbing and paint touchup in the engine bay. Nothing worth taking pictures of, but all necessary tasks to make me feel some level of satisfaction with my efforts.

Rubbish.

This is the 4th BMW crank bolt I have removed with this 6 year old HF electric impact gun.

And that same impact got my rear axle nuts loose on my trailing arms after they were already off the car. *thumbs up*

Why not just get an OBD1 timing cover and avoid the JB welding massacre that will be installing the coolant pipe.

Im only removing them to check the chain guides, replace the seals, and clean them up. The covers should be milled with the head/block to keep from being too high/low so i will keep these since they match the engine

Exhaust studs installed, passenger side of engine cleaned and painted. On to the cams now.

I spent all my cam install time today scrubbing my garage floor with some concrete cleaner. Lets just say yesterday I earned an Oil-Dri sponsorship for my accurate scale depiction of the BP Gulf oil spill.

I also discovered the E36 oil pan on this engine (which i'm not using) is cracked so that saves me from having to try selling it.

My vamos rebuild starts with a gross negligence towards following instructions and a blatant disregard for left handed threads so I snapped the torx screw inside the deep bore of the helical gear. Unrepairable.

I didnt want to curse my vamos by getting my Dora gloves all dirty but unfortunately oil on precision machined aluminum is very slippery and the vamos piston got away from me.

I couldnt quite get a good grip so I used some vise-grips, but the handles were oily so I dropped it again.

So the broken screw really happened but luckily i had a spare vamos assembly to pick parts from so no usable vamos parts were harmed in this rebuild.

I installed the Beisan. Its spelled Beisan, not BeSian, Beisan, like Nissan. Just like how its a Giubo and not a Guibo, and a vamos instead of a vanos, wait, dammit!

The Beisan anti rattle ring was installed and the piston seals were replaced. Its nice and tight now. Just hope it all works.
