m52 in a e30

Does anyone know if the stock trans in a 90 325is will bolt up to a m52?

I assume you are speaking of the manual, yes it will.  The e30 5speed that was used with the 6cyl engine is the Getrag g260.  The advantage it has is a nice overdrive for lower RPM highway cruising.  All of the e36 manuals had no overdrive.

The M50/52 block is based off the M20 so they are basically the same size disregarding different accessories.

Maybe somebody would know this but other than a custom brace for the rear what about fitting a g260 into an e36 behind the m50?  I wonder what drive shaft length would fit or if it would have to be custom made.  The overdrive would be awesome and my g250 makes odd whirling noises on hard deceleration in second gear, similar to the noise Curly from the 3 stooges makes referred to as "whoop whoop whoop" at around 3-5 seconds.

Stock driveshaft wouldn't work. You would need to use an e30 driveshaft actually. If your diff has the six bolt flange you have no options other than another e36 trans.

Hmm, that would be easy if all I need is the drive shaft, my dif is a 4 bolt input as is the 3.23 LSD I just got.  I will look into this.  Not much comes up when searching, better mpg highway cruising would be awesome.

420g is heavy and expensive.  ZF still has no overdrive.
