Getting a light thunk in the trans (88 325i automatic) between 2nd and 1st gear when slowing down, usually around 20mph. I'm thinking that I may need to add a little trans fluid, however, the manual calls for Dextron II, and it isn't made anymore. What is everybody using as a substitute these days? Don't want to buy the wrong stuff and end up burning a trans.

    Thanks.

Dexron III and Dexron IV "meet or exceed" Dexron II specifications

Using dexron III or IV when dexron II is called for is perfectly acceptable. Id run Valvoline Max-Life ATF if I were you
