Reason number 263 to buy an e46 M3:  Save money on oil by buying one less quart.

Side note: Ignore fact that 10w60 is roughly the same price as unicorn blood.

Welp, I'm getting a severe clunking while accelerating in 1st and banging/clunking when I let off the throttle going 30mph. Hopefully it's axels but I think the diff is to blame.

Never heard axles make that noise. Could be rear diff bolts, the front ones sometimes break and cause this issues. Or the diff itself could be bad. Also would want to look into the driveshaft if the diff is not found to be the issue.

I didn't see any broken bolts or cracked anything.

It sounds and feels like the CSB but the diff had a little play in it and it was making some noise when I had it jacked up and was spinning the wheels like Jam Master J.

There has been a new vibration the past 200 miles once I hit 100mph. Anything above/below that it is fine.

You won't see the broken bolts, they are the front ones that go into the subframe. They have updated bolts from bmw, google e46 m3 rear clunk.

From what I'm reading about the "clunk" I believe that it isn't that. Still leaning towards the CSB. My diff might be making noise when rotating the tires due to the sloppiness of the ///M diff.

This is exactly what the noise is like.

I would definitely believe it's the CSB.  Mine was making HORRENDOUS noise before I replaced it to the point that I thought my diff was gone, my clutch was exploding, my drive shaft was falling out, my wheels were gonna fall off, etc.

Turns out replacing the guibo and CSB fixed it all.  I had a severe clunk when taking off from a stop, banging/ clunking on decel around 25 mph - 35 mph and a vibration between 65 mph and 75 mph.

If it sounds like someone is knocking at your trans tunnel when you push the go pedal, its a csb!

                                        Got her back!

I keep getting a random cylinder 6 misfire so a new coil is waiting to be installed.

The rear tires were shot so some new rubber was mounted.  Michelin Pilot Super Sports all around.  255s in rear and 245s are in the front.

The tires really make it a whole different beast.

The rear tires were shot so some new rubber was mounted.  Michelin Pilot Super Sports all around.  255s in rear and 245s are in the front.

Wonder what the cause of this was? New shoes always feel good!
