So i plan on doing the auto to manual conversion over winter on my 97 m3. I may do it sooner if i can get all the parts faster. I just got done moving into a new apt. Which costed substanially more than i antisapated on spending. Anyways..just wondering if any of you guys on here have done the conversion..i have read most all of the how tos i could find but never really got to talk to someone who has done the swap.

Kinda of curious on what the difficulty level is. I am by no mean a rookie. I have done at least 25 auto to manual swaps just one 240's not to mention countless other cars..i do all my own work. I have all my own tools and i love turning wrenches so im looking at this as being fun just like any other project on a vehicle.

This is my first bmw that i have owned and worked on. I am aoooo in love with this car is crazy. And when i stopped out at scooters i saw a light green boosted m3 e36 which has got me itching to get boosting again. But first things first. Have to have a manual swapp done before anything else. Well coilovers are coming first then the auto to manual swap..

Anyone have any in sight on this subject you'd like to share??

Btw i have been leaning towards the e46 m3 6spd swap. Anyone prefer the m3 5 spd over 6 spd or whats a prefrence to everyone?

Well, the vibrations were to a minimal. Barely felt anything. Although i heard it and staryed getting louder day by day. I drove it for sbout a week with those hack parts on ( not knowing it was that bad ). I mean to me. The guy spent the time taking the center support off to weld. Why not just order one ys knkw!!!

As for the "fur" looking material. Guibo's have thin strands of rope/cord inside of them. When inslecting a guibo you with either see cracking or what you see in mine is the rope coming apart or you will see both..immediatly replace if you do. The noise i was hearing was coming from the guibo.

Suspenceful- are you talking about the chome trim around the ceenter grill section? If soo good idea.

Any other advice is much appreciated. Ordering raceland coilovers hopfully friday and then will start prdering and gathering parts slowely for the e46 m3 6spd trans swap i plan on doing over winter!

Well i have not taken any of the wheels off since i have had this car? The button is kind of sticky. Do you think maybe it was stu k being pressed down could have caused this?

So i recently got this m3 last week. And my parts finally came in for the center support and bearing and the flex joint for driveline.

I go to replace them both yesterday, which btw i read all kinds of how tos and what now( this is my first bmw and first time working on one) and everyone said it was a pain to do these jobs, which in fact was super easy!!

Any ways. So the guy i vot this m3 told me he put a temp. center support in..so ok i order the oarts they come in and i go to remove the old flex joint and center support..and this is what i found

I have never in my life actually seen something so rigged and retarded. Now mind you i have owned oh well over 100 neons. A couple handfuls of s13's-s14's few toyota cressidas. I mean i have had many cars and this is beyond anything i have seen some people do!

Also here is the flex joint that i also replaced

So yesterday i dropped the exhaust, and driveshaft to replace the center support and bearing and i also replaced the guibo/flex joint.

My traction control button it now showing the light on the dash now. Now i dont know if it has something to do with dropping the driveline. It was working like 3 days ago because i flipped it off for a bit of fun in the rain! I did not unplug anything while doing work on it yesterday so thats whT has me stumped. Now im new to bmw's.

Oh btw the car im speaking about is my 97 m3 sedan automatic.

Any advice on where to start sear hing and diagnosing wouod be much appreciated.

    Thank you

Haha..a tually in order to put a r1 motor into a r6 frame it involves cutting on some of the frame and welding new mounts on for the bigger motor of the r1..ver unsafe

I recently got this m3. I have been searching and searchingg for a 3 series. Right at ghe end of winter i traded a da integra for the bike pictured below...i had the bike up until last week. It got backed into at my job and tipped over cracking most plastics on the left side, did $4,000.20 in damage to the bike. I got the insurance money and then the kid i traded my integra for this bike texted me and said he was interested in trading this m3 back for the bike. I explained to him the damages but the bike held a clean title still. So i traded him the bike BACK for this bmw m3....plus i still had gotten the money from the insurance company for damages to the bike, which i did not fix the bike i just kept the money...and thats how i obtained this beautiful m3
