Hey all,
I'm getting ready to move into the Fox Valley and need to know whether there is a good shop up there.
TIA
Bill
Too funny! But I'm with ya! I'm 56 and still find the e30 to be my fav car though I do miss my e21 323, but the e30 is much more of the daily friendly mode of transportation. Not saying I didn't like my e36 0r e46, but the e30 fits me better in most ways.
Oh, thats funny!
Last month the wife backed into the 325is in the driveway and made the right fender a bit shorter than what it was, so figured it was time to get rid of all the stone chips from our life in CO along with the door dents in the front fenders.
I really wish I had more time for this stuff.
Glad to see I could finally get back on the forum! Old guys need to be regular! Finally got around to pulling the 87 325is apart and hopefully can get to the GTG coming up! Way too much going on this time of year, what with the kid running in SKUSA, 3 cars in restoration, travel with work, grandkids graduating in CO and other misc family issues going on....
I also finally let my BMWCCA membership drop, again..... I simply have no interest in whats going on with the new BMW's I really liked the Roundel but only got half of mine and only received 3 Immers. I guess I'm starting to ramble!! I guess thats what happens when I can't lerk my fav BMW forum, Bill
Ah, yah that gets you into the old farts group! But it was Newnam and Wagner in Winning along with Newman's bride to be Joanne Woodward. I got to sit in Wagner's DD which was a Lotus Europa. (long story!) Sure do miss those CANAM days!
Thanks Dan , I will let you know the next time I get down to the Milw. area. I was going to come down for the meet this weekend, but not going to make it.
The car I am planning on swapping is my 87 325is.
I don't mind it, that keeps the motor right at the power band at interstate speeds. It also sounds better than any stereo;-) Aint much that sounds better than a BMW motor thats happy!
Hummm! Lots of good stuff here. Grey, if I were to decide to do this I may use your services. 6pwr, I know I like the m50 better overall, its got plenty of power but even better its dependable. I have always had problems with oil leaks with the m20, and I think the rubber band is a pain in the ass. I'm also really tired of having to adjust valves all the time.
That being said, I would like to take a look at a couple of finished swaps. I would love to do the swap myself, but I travel way to much to be able to get finished in this decade..
My car has over 285k on it but has a factory new steering rack , tranny, and 4:11 LSD in it. The car has no rust on it, and the interior is nice and soft yet. I've had both e36 325is and M3's and they are nice but I'm not really into the doctor, lawyer image thing, I'm old but I still like to let it hang out if ya know what I mean! The e30 is a fun car! I just want to make mine alittle less work to drive. After this gets done then I can do what I do! Paint!

Sagaris, I guess thats whu I'm asking questions now rather than be sorry I pulled a perfectly running e36 apart. I was planning on doing a stroker motor but thats not a cheap route either. Are there any good builders in the area, I used to use a guy on the north side of Milw but he's out in Cali now. I'd love for Jenny Morgan to do it but don't think thats going to happen. Anyway I'm weighing my options.
Bill
So Chadley are you happy with the result? Did you do the swap or pay someone? I'm trying to figure out whether I want to do mine or just have it done. That would bring up another problem , who to have do the swap!
Its clean but its served its purpose. I have always liked the e30 better so I figured its time to fix some oil leaks and tired power by doing the swap. I do like the way that the m50 runs also. The e36 is in my album.
I am planning on stripping my e36, I figure what the heck, I know everything about its history.
wow we should set up a repower line LOL! So is Dan happy with his?
So other than the cost whats been the biggest issue? Who's Dan? I guess I only know screen names.
I'm contemplating a swap and would really like to have a good chat about this project. Better yet I'd like to see the result.
Bill
Anybody ever tried "The Mine Shaft" in Hartford which is close by? Very good chow! Used to go there with Badger Bimmers.
Wow your kidding ! Theres nobody out on the weat side of the state interested in older Bimmers! This place is great, almost as many great roads here as out in Colorado. Ya gotta love the Coulees!
