I am back in business! After letting the e21 go and acquiring a Ducati in its place, it was time to let the Ducati go for something I really wanted.

Say hello to my new to me 1999 Z3 Coupe! Comfortably parked along with the touring.

Rear flares fitted. Time to figure out how to finish this wrap in the cold weather. 🤔

Some of you know that my daily is an e46 325xi touring.

As of recently, it may be going under the knife soon for a swap that was too good to pass up. Found a complete M54B30 with complete 5spd trans setup for a steal of a deal. Includes an underdrive pulley kit, M5 clutch and a Spec M5 lightened flywheel as well.

Job is done and very well worth it! Didn't get a whole lot of pics, but got a few. First drive home makes me not want to put it in garage for winter yet. Lol. Revs like a son of a bitch and shifting is very smooth with new detents.

I did screw up and bought the wrong DSSR. The one I got was for the e36, thinking it was the same. Well, the Z3 shift arm is almost twice as long as the e36. Had to reuse the stock arm for now and will be ordering the correct one to swap in over winter.

All-in-all I'm very happy with the result and will be tough to take it easy next spring to break-in the clutch correctly.

Changed out the halogen headlight bulbs with some Morimoto 2stroke 2.0 LED bulbs. Love these! I first put them in my previous Dodge Magnum. The cutoff, color temp and brightness far exceed anything else I've used/seen. They are engineered to work in halogen housings or projector housings, so the pattern/cutoff is exactly how it should be. No stray light blinding oncoming traffic. Need to get a good picture of the cutoff against garage door one of these evenings.

Next up is switching out the interior lights for LED replacements. I also ordered a footwell light kit from leatherz.com which allows a plug-n-play install of OEM style footwell lights that dim with the rest of interior lights when turning on/off. Pics of that coming when they arrive.

After more failed attempts at coding the B25 DME (kept having issues with connecting and finding the dme in the software), it was time to turn to plan b. Thanks to @m42b32 for having an extra MS43 DME and being able to flash it with everything I needed. Joe ended up putting the stock B30 tune, EWS delete and SAI delete on it and it worked like a charm.

After a couple startups to see how things were going, the engine started running extremely rough and wouldn't idle. @B C ended up stopping over with his computer. We checked fuel injectors, good. Checked coilpacks, good. Nothing was obvious from the outside, so we plugged the computer in to check error codes. After translating a few we narrowed it down to the DISA valve. Turns out the plug wasn't fully seated on the connector. Plugged it in and purred like a kitten. Sweet!

Torqued down axle nuts and crank bolt, bled the clutch a million different ways until it finally got all the air out, dropped it on the ZHP wheels and took it for a short "around the block" drive. All seems pretty good.

Time to throw the front end back on, hood, fill AC install airbox and start daily it. 👍

Figured I'd start with more interior work.

Firstly started with installing the Never Done glove box sag fix.

I then moved on to removing the seats and center console. This is to prep for the dash replacement and to install the restored Z3M center console pieces.

Really got after it with the warm weather today. Dashboard and front half carpet removed. Dashboard was fairly straight forward and simple. The carpet removal would not have been purist approved. Had to cut it back behind center console otherwise the heater core and many other things would have to have been removed in order to get carpet out whole. Wasn't going to get that involved. Plus where I cut will never be seen when new carpet goes in.

    20220220121148.jpg

Dashboard was disassembled and the "pods" were prepped for paint. Along with the kick panels too. New black dashboard didn't come with the "pods" and are near impossible/expensive to find.

    20220220141045.jpg

LVP paint applied to all pieces. Need to get another can for final coats.

    20220220143720.jpg

Once new front half carpet arrives in mail things can start getting reassembled again.

Alright, alright. I forgot to take pics of the finished bracket, but here is one of the test print before doing it for real in black ABS.

I then bought the DIY wireless phone charger kit from ECS Tuning to make it an easy install.

    And here it is installed.
