Yeah, its basically little Allen wrenches wrapped around the metal dowel on that drum, they're solid, not wires. IDK the actual name for it, but it's been in my shop for over a decade easy. It hit a washer on monday, and made it a projectile, was sweet. But yes, it is scary! haha

I'm hoping to DROP the old one by saturday. Sadly. I'd love to wrench on my E28 this sunday (High of 47*)! But I'll be starting my vacation sunday, and won't be back till wednesday!

So, I did all the wire wheeling, got that gross rust off. Decided to primer and paint that rear diff, WHITE. Dunno why. everyone does black, I'm gunna do white, because honestly, who the fuck cares.

haha sweet. I caught a wire in my arm once. It felt like a bb gun (don't ask how I know).

Did you scuff and prime the diff? If not, it list likely will flake off.

Scuff? I just used that meat grinder wheel, and a wire wheel. Used a nice 2 layer of industrial primer, then 3 coats of paint. She'll be fine. and if it flakes off, fuck it. It's my rear diff. Ain't no one gunna see it really

Finally got to dropping the rear diff in the E28.

Good news is, the rear diff is out.

Bad news. It was an LSD diff. Yeah, FUCK ME RIGHT?

Anyways. That took 2 days to get out, (Don't wanna hear that I took forever, I'm doing it in the cold, on the ground, bymyself. #excusemeister

How she's been sitting the whole time. Haha

                      Picture017.jpg

Rear diff out finally, wrenching bolts off, to pull the cover.

                      Picture018.jpg

Hey look, an LSD! Looks fine, teeth look good right?

                      Picture019.jpg

Then, this fell out, no snap ring holding it in, wtf?

                      Picture020.jpg

Then, these were found in the last bits of the fluid. God knows what poured out of the majority of the fluid ( I poured it in an unmentionable spot)

                      Picture021.jpg

                      Inner LSD teeth.

                      Picture023.jpg

                      More random teeth chunks.

                      Picture024.jpg

How it's currently sitting in my driveway.

                      Picture025.jpg

                      Video of the internals!

LSD diff's are rebuildable. So, this one is for sale. The inards need to be replaced. Other then that, housing and drive teeth are fine. So if someone wants a project, this LSD is for sale, or I'll rebuild it and sell it. Or scrap it. PM me if interested. Also, video of the insides!

Lol holy shit, that's worse than I thought. I pictured much smaller bits when you said "chunks" came out. Chunks is pretty accurate

Finally!  I mean, I was seeing your crypitc posts on FB, then coming here to see no updates.  I was thinking you grenaded your new racist diff.  Good to see you didn't.

No idea. this rear diff was so warn. The friction plates were probably GONE. I always thought I had an open diff, but evidently it was at one point an LSD. No idea how it got destroyed though.

Yeah, I haven't even put it in yet. I'm waiting to pick up diff fluid. (currently broke as shit, and just got back from vacation!)

Well, since my vacation went a little to spend happy in the childrens game room, I'm a little tight on cash. So I proposed a deal with a few guys on the wibimmers chat! Snap, REKIII, Bassboi, Cyoungster. That if they purchase my diff fluid, I'll install the diff, mount up my other set of tires, grab my camera, and video tape a burnout till the tires blow.

Well, Chris pulled through like a complete fawkin bawse. An said he'd be at my place this weekend dumping in diff fluid, and helping turn a wrench. Get ready for a burn out that looks like this-

yeah, I'm excited. I gotta go out sometime, mount up these wheels and fully deflate the tires, to make sure when they blow, that I won't be dragging my frame/gas tank/ etc
