So over the course of last weekend (sunday to be specific)  I drove from Mad-town to Colgate (zachari's house) to snatch another 3.25 rear diff for the E28. I get yelled at by everyone for not taking enough pictures, so pictures and video are to be had.

Jake snapped this photo of me under the E28, cutting half shafts in the snow!

    image1362358691024914.jpg

After that half shaft was cut, we packed up our cars, put everything back in the garage. And headed to the walmart in Germantown. To test drive Nick's E46 328CI. Thing was awesome, needs some work. But is an awesome car. Hoping to snag that thing real soon.

Fastforward about an hour, we're heading to Jake's shop in Waukesha.

Here we pulled the diff cover off to inspect it.

    Picture001.jpg

All looks good! Mashed teeth or obscure objects in the diff.

    Picture002.jpg

Then we gave it a final bath of brake kleen, then soaked up as much as we could of brake kleen & the remaining diff fluid.

    Picture005.jpg

Then, we got to talking about Jake's E30 on the lift hovering over one of the Semi's. Got to play with his hydro samari sword E-brake. Thing is titties! I also want his front seats!

    Picture006.jpg

Enough boring shit, let's get to metal porn. I had joked around with Jake about welding my rear diff. He was down for welding it, so that was next on the agenda.

    Picture008.jpg

Rotate the output flanges 180 degree's and do it all over again. You wanna get both sides of the spider gears.

Fast forward to Monday, I had driven back to Madison. Then upstate to my shop in Green Lake. (Hi rowley, sorry I didn't say hi. )

I wanted to get all the rust scale, and other random nonsense off this thing, because honestly, it was fucking caked in who the hell knows what. And had been sitting in the dirt for a minute. So I started off with the tool shown below (Thing does a fucking NUMBER to rust chunks, but doesn't gouge the parts which is a plus! Then I wire wheeled it to get all the finer stuff off.

    IMG20130304130348540.jpg

    After whire wheeling it.

    IMG20130304130356073.jpg

After that, I broke all the Allen bolts lose, but left them threaded in for the time being, because the half shafts make awesome carrying handles of this heavy chunk of metal.

After that, I'm gunna prime/paint it, to prevent further damage, and painted diff's look cool as fuck. Then drop my old one, and install this one!

Then I snapped this really shitty panoramic photo looking out on my farm. this is the view from inside my shop. This shot would have looked cooler with the race sled, and the quad sitting out in the field, but fuck that. I'd rather ride them then let them sit in the field!

I found 18-19 worked good.  Gas was around 30 or so?  250 wire speed.

You're never home anyways. And we've only met up 3 times total since I've owned my BMW. Get less of a life.

Glad to see my car's parts going to use! That diff cleaned up really well too, I'll need to do the same on the be28ter as it is in the same condition.

If you wanna borrow that wire stick wheel, LMK. as a regular wire wheel, will get destroyed in minutes. That wire stick wheel, does a NUMBER, and fast! I love it.

Yeah, its basically little Allen wrenches wrapped around the metal dowel on that drum, they're solid, not wires. IDK the actual name for it, but it's been in my shop for over a decade easy. It hit a washer on monday, and made it a projectile, was sweet. But yes, it is scary! haha

So, I did all the wire wheeling, got that gross rust off. Decided to primer and paint that rear diff, WHITE. Dunno why. everyone does black, I'm gunna do white, because honestly, who the fuck cares.

Scuff? I just used that meat grinder wheel, and a wire wheel. Used a nice 2 layer of industrial primer, then 3 coats of paint. She'll be fine. and if it flakes off, fuck it. It's my rear diff. Ain't no one gunna see it really
