Since the 8 has been out of the loop for so long , the strikingly different look is just that, striking.....compare the old 8 with every other at the time current BMW, it looked VERY different.

The big grill thing is something we will be seeing more and more, look at all the new Mercs.  Unfortunately this is due to every increasing pedestrian impact regs in Europe.  They want a larger vertical surface on cars so if a pedestrian is bumped at low speed they are more likley to go away from the car than on the hood or under the car. Mrc and BMW are hiding this large frontal surface with huge grilles.

I really like this new concept.  Best part is that the headlights don't touch the grilles.  The rest of the current line up went away from that, and they all look like everything else out there now.

I agree with REKIII but it still doesn't excite me much. It'll be toned down yet before production and then just be a big expensive coupe.

The regs explains the big grill thing.  I didn't know that.  It explains the Audi floor to ceiling grills.

The side and rear are sexy though, I would bet the front will get toned down some before release

In typical BMW F-chassis fashion, the new ///M8 sounds like a complete freak show. Im hearing a Lion mixed with a horse.

The safety car sounded pretty good. thankfully it drowned out the sound of the 8 when they took off, because it sounds broken

What I don't understand is why it sounds like shit.  My guess is this is some form of n63/s63 and that engine sounds good.  How did they fuck this up?
