As long as they have the dollies under the rear wheels it's fine to tow like that. For a low car it might be easier than loading onto a rollback truck, it all depends on the truck. Bummer to wait so long for a tow, I had an experience like that once, only about 4 hours though. It was a comedy of errors, the first tow truck they sent had a fuel pump fail on the way and then they sent a different one to retrieve it or repair it before they actually came to tow my car. I wasn't going to complain too much though because I had signed up for AAA specifically to tow an e30 I bought home. A tip for AAA users, to save a huge hassle and lots of questions if you are trying to tow a car from a mechanic shop absolutely get it out onto the road and do not mention the address of the repair shop.

Apparently he has had 14 BMW's, most of them M's. Viga is a genuinely nice person and I'm glad we got to spend some time together, it was nice to spend a night with someone so well versed in BMW's, its been quite a long time since I don't think any of you guys live near me.
I agree, I met him at a Stance Wisconsin show probably 7 or 8 years ago and I think he had a 335i. I stopped and chatted with him and he was really nice, very genuine and happy to just sit and talk to a stranger about cars. I've run into him a few times since then and you always know when you see one of his cars.

That's the one, yeah. Or at least that's what he suspects, and it does make sense. There was no CEL at all, the car just started to overheat, and fast. The only thing that is odd about that is that it was holding coolant, it didn't pour everything out. It only leaked while it was extremely hot.

Assuming you shut it down quickly, sounds like put a new expansion tank I , bleed system and be on your way

Yeah I pulled over at the first road, not even 1000 feet from when the indicators came on. Everyone tried to convince me to limp it home or try to continue but I didn't feel like taking a chance on permanently damaging the engine.

Hope you made the best of the rally! That was Damon in the white 135i with 1M-style bumpers. Nice guy.
Sucks about your car. I'd say it's the water pump or expansion tank. If you shut her down early on, you should be safe.

I had fun and my wife even started enjoying it, I'll definitely be doing it again next year. Hopefully I'll have the M3 by then though.

I bought a thing.
I figured my wife would need a car while I'm at events and when we move more than two blocks from work. And since we're still without my car it seemed like reasonable timing, so there it is. 2016 Honda CR-Z.
Man I miss my car...

Well you see, my wife does not enjoy driving and this should theoretically never break.
This lets me keep this as her car while I have my BMW's, and I should still be on track to get the E46 M3 by this time next year.
I didn't sell the BMW lol

Was always curious to drive those new CR-X's when they came our. Looks like q fun little hatch.
This one is not bad, its just really boring. I never realized how much fun I had while driving my car I guess, because this just isn't any fun to drive.
But I do get 46 mpg around town, and I won't have to drive my car in the winter or on short drives anymore. It put me behind in the M3 hunt but overall it was probably a smart move.

Finally got my car back (it was the water pump after all) and had some fun with it this weekend. I told myself I was going to be gentle for a while, but damn I missed driving it.

Hi all, I'm back again with more indecisiveness.
First a little context before I ask more questions;
Last year when I bought the 330, I purposely avoided all 335's because of the reliability issues. But last month when the E90 broke, I ended up buying a Honda for the wife. That thing won't break anytime soon, so I don't have to worry so much about my only car exploding on me.Now, I have a budget set to spend around 17k on a car by the end of the year (including selling mine). My thought had been on an E46 M3, but recently I have fallen madly in love with my car again, it's just a little....slow. So I got to thinking about 335's.
In my head, I can get a clean 335 for less than an M3, and it will have more power. The question is, should I?
I have someone that offered me a 335i that already has all the mods I would want and a warranty until 2019, for less than 11k. The car is loaded and even has the M Sport package, the only problems are its far away from me and its another automatic (I finally learned to drive stick and had my heart set on getting a manual car). I'm not sure I can pass this up, but I've been thinking about this so much over the last week that I need some words of wisdom from the experts. *cough* @patsbimmer1

The 335i is simply amazing for a street car. Sure it doesn't have an LSD, the stock tires are runflats, it has its share of issues that other cars dont have, but it is an amazing car. Making the assumption that you have $17k to go towards the car, I'd either keep $2000 set aside for an "N54 surprise buttsecks" fund, or purchase an extended warranty. The extended warranty on my FIL's 2007 already came in handy at 42k for the water pump failure.
Every car is going to break or require maintenance, its important that the car is worth sinking money into. In my mind a 335i definitely is.
Dont be afraid of the automatic in the 335i either. With the Dinan trans tune it is a fast-shifting and sporty transmission that is so direct, it actually feels a lot like a dual clutch trans.

Yeah the car I'm looking at is 5k under budget at least, he says its up to date on maintenance and the warranty would be so nice to have. He has bremer wheels and conti's on it now, or I could always try to keep my wheels and tires since I just bought them this spring for over a grand...
Its not that I'm afraid of the auto, I quite enjoy it in my current car, I was just getting hyped over finally having a manual now that I can drive one.
My original plan was to buy an unmolested one and then mod it to round 400hp, and it sounds like the auto is more than sufficient to handle the extra power too.
