Are e36 & e46 wheels interchangeable?

It all depends on what wheels and your tire sizes.

but generally, yes. Both have similar offsets, same hub size.

Like already mentioned, bolt pattern and hub bore are the same, offsets are similar. Your M3 will generally require 17 inch wheels to clear the brakes (there are a select few 16's that will clear) while I believe an e46 325i can go as small as 15's.
