I think I'm going to replace my headgasket for warm and fuzzies since I'm already tearing the block down this far. Has anyone done an M42 headgasket before?

From what I can tell, it is really straight forward=) You bought and OEM gasket right? I hear nothing but bad things about the Victor Reinz gasket.

I got a little bit done yesterday.

I started off by cleaning the other side of the block up with what was left of my drill mounted wire cup.

          IMAG0863zpsa0c6707f.jpg

I need to get a wire wheel for the grinder and it should get the last bits of stubborn rust dust off.

I then put a cutting wheel on the grinder and slipped working on the trailing arms=P

          IMAG0854zpsfb7958bb.jpg

          IMAG0855zps691a8650.jpg

Whoops. Well since I "wrecked" one of them, I figured I would do the other.

          IMAG0856zps11bf8784.jpg

I then got the idea, why not wreck the spring seats on the body too? So I did.

More updates Saturday....or will it be sooner? =D

Is that required for air suspension or are you just going to run coilovers and decided to chop some things up?

Of course it is=) If it wasn't, a manual swap would have been the first thing on the list.

It does have a semi bad transmission though. It has the common problem with knocking out of first gear if you don't put it in gear before coming to a stop. It has to stay in gear then. If I take it out of gear at all while stopped, it will throw it out of first when I go to take off. In the case I do take it out of gear stopped, I have to go in reverse; drive backwards a bit; and put it in first gear. It also has a third gear knock very rarely. It has happened enough times to be a known issue though.

get a different transmission. That sounds annoying as hell Earl

Minus having a hood on it. lol And it wasn't washed. I'll find a picture=D

First time I saw the car. The hood that was on it in the picture above is the original one. It flew up on the highway from the PO (my friend pictured) not closing it all the way. Hence why it had a brand new windshield too.

                                    IMAG0040.jpg

He just bought the car a month or two before because it was on craigslist as a parts car. He put in the missing rear diff and changed the brakes. I believe that was about it.
