The sad reality is driving physics will never be made realistic in a video game. The amount of skill needed to drive them on the console would turn away too many players=/ I mean they could have a setting that gives you very realistic physics and then have a setting for the novice players.

iRacing? rFactor? RaceRoom Racing Experience? I haven't tried any of them yet, but there are definitely some hardcore racing games out there. I think they're all PC-only though.

I meant console games. Sorry that I didn't specify. There are tons of hardcore simulators for anything on PC haha

Yeah, some of the stuff that's out there is pretty nuts, with prices to match unfortunately. Boys and their hobbies...

My laptop was a pretty slow when I bought it 5 years ago, so there's no chance of doing any gaming on it.

                    Road 'Murica

This game isnt fun for tooling around and drifting like forza/GT but for those times when you want to have some make-believe track time or improve your driving technique in the quest to shave another tenth off your lap time, then this is the real deal!

The suspension model is impressive in that a semi-trailing arm equipped car squats and moves very true to life.

A steering wheel is a must. In the virtual world, the communication from the forces and physical sensations of grip do not exist and a compliant/forgiving car can be handled with a controller just fine. Turn up the power, remove compliance, and add the lower predictability of racing tires and the limited control with the controller is just not enough

Corsa didn't like my computer, that or I forgot to install the framework....
If you are looking for a good offroad sim Dirt has a surprisingly good engine behind it, and is setup to work with a wheel and whatnot.
