Shock absorbers

The old suspension is starting to get a little spongy, so it's probably time to replace the shocks and struts. I'm on a tight budget, so Bilstien's are out. Looking at either run of the mill Gabriel/Monroe's, or possibly KYB Gas Adjusts.
Any thoughts on which are better? I'm just doing stock as it's my DD.

Are Monroe's better than KYB?

My experience with KYB on customers vehicles has been fair but the complaints I have had are rough ride and premature wear. I have had far more luck installing Monroe's on customers vehicles.
