so i have had a fuel leak on my 89 325iS for a while now and it has gotten worse to the point where i am not comfortable with driving it. there was a mishap a few years back where a friend decided to help me out by jacking my car up by the gas tank and not a lift point so its always had a slight gas smell ever since. i am going to drop the tank this week to see where the leak could be coming from. my question is that if the hard steel lines that across the top of the tank are leaking, could they be replaced with high pressure fuel hose and hose clamps? i couldnt find any part numbers for them on real oem and i would like to drive the car a bit longer before the snow fly's. also i couldnt seem to find the part numbers for the tank straps.

    Thanks, Andy

Get some fuel hose with a working pressure of 100psi or more, and make sure the hose doesnt move around and rub/spring a future leak and I think you should be fine.

You can bend steel line Flare like brake lines just to be safe at the top then use the rubber hose at the botton 50psi is not really al that high of pressure. Just make sure you get the fuel line for fuel injection.

I guessed you probably would.  The tank in my 88 325i seems to have rusted through on the top somewhere, so it leaks every time I fill it full.  Don't have the money to replace it right now, though.  Will probably be a few months.   :(

This is so common in e30's. I have a feeling the 318ti gas tank will fit. It that is the case it would be a good upgrade because it is plastic.
