Stay away from the 230s and xr650l. They are gutless turds

Xr650r is a decent water cooled bike, still big and slow for what they are. Any of the sub 250cc stuff that came from factory as supermotos are gutless.

The drz400 is pretty choked up from factory as well, but it is an insanely reliable platform that hasn't changed in almost 13 years.

To get to stock 450s and larger (more of a "race bike") platform you would have husqvarna, KTM, husaberg, bmw. Huskies were good after 08 when they figured out their fuel injection issues, but still have a "race bike" maintenance schedule.

KTM was good when they started making the 530s and 500exc (need Supermoto conversion). Stay away from the LC4 and rotax junk. Husa I have no experience with other than their motor sits @ a 70 degree angle and its a bitch to find parts.

Bmw 450 is meh to be honest. There was a year or two when there was a huge cluster fu** of who owned who (bmw owned husky for a while, ktm owned husa for a bit, etc)

If you want to buy an aprillia, buy two bikes. One for parts and the other to put on a stand and stare at

Yeah, moving to a new place in 2 months and I don't have room for the 911, Escape, Victory + Ducati 😕

So you buy a beautiful Duc, proceed to smash it, then sell it.  WTF?

Thanks.  That helps a bit.  Still sucks that everyone thinks they are gold.  I refuse to pay excellent retail price for someones dinged up bike.

Excuses....you can easily fit two bikes and a 911 in a one car garage and don't tell me you can't.

Tis but a flesh wound! I'm gonna touch it up and list it.. All my coworkers have cruisers and I have nobody to ride sportbikes with around here 😕

Plus, it's hard to justify it when I have enough other toys, maintenance on that + insurance + the work the Victory is due for/insurance + Porsche costs.. I'd like to eliminate some of my costs and start saving for a place of my own down the road.

I've got underground parking, 1 stall, and whatever stalls I can find outside. I don't want to leave the bikes outside because people will fuck with them...

I don't doubt I could, but I need something to haul shit around in and beat up on. The ol Ass'Gape is perfect for that.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Duc, but as far as toys go I like the 911 more.

Thanks for all the good info. What I'm looking for is the lightest bike possbile, which is why I want to start with a dirtbike platform. I'm planning on lowering it a lot, so it won't really be a supermoto. I just want something that feels small and light that I can use for zipping around town and hooning around like a delinquent. I grew up on BMX bike, so that's basically the feel I'm going for, except with 20 or 30 horsepower to play with.

                            Just had a horrible dream:

My grandpa, who used to run his own repair shop, was rebuilding my bottom end for me. He finished and I went to go pick it up. Some lady, we can just assume it was my grandma, told me my grandpa had done something a little extra special. I asked what it was and i was told "lets just say you wont have to worry about valve adjustments anymore" as if doing me a huge favor.

I go to his shop to pick it up and im fearing the worst. I suppose he could have done something extra special to the m20 but its more likely he bought a 24v for me instead of rebuilding my m20.

I show up, the m20 is a pile of crap and im told it wasnt worth rebuilding so he got another engine for me.

Yep, M50 with an intake manifold painted red and flaking off.

The biggest problem about this was the fact that none of my cool parts would work with it and id be sub-200 HP again, not some sort of anti-m50 propaganda

Might have found the perfect engine swap for my mini-street-franken-moto-tracker thing...

                                  6347943218859863312013-Ninja-250R-engine

Same torque as a 250 dirtbike engine, so it (probably) won't over-stress the chassis, except it's a twin that revs to 12.5krpm, so it makes 50% more power... Best of all, they sell for $400-500 on ebay all day long.... hmmmmm....

This guy pretty much sums it up:

For the record, the ZX-10R only weighs about 16% more than the 250 and has about 4.5x times the power.... Learn to ride/drive first, then step up to something faster, or else... get used to being called a squid :D
