BMW E30 Convertible Pan Roof
-
I saw this online a few days ago and its still blowing my mind. I guess it was a factory part and only 3 of them were made. It was used for a showcase in an auto show at the end of the E30's production. The owner is in Europe and apparently paid $15,000 for the hardtop alone.
If anyone has leads on a cheap E30 hardtop locally let me know.

I just thought I would share because its gawd damn AMAZING.

glass roof on a convertible - there was ne'er a more redundant idea.

This is the coolest e30 thing ever imo. Would like to know more on the history of the auto show.
Me too. But I spent a few solid hours searching and could only come up with a few really pixelated images.

I think if you were to cut up a hardtop to do the fishbowl mod, you'd want a nice one so it was straight and sound. It would be hard taking a sawzall to it though.

Curmudgeony old guy here to mention that that has to be pretty heavy if it's glass.
Also, I would think you'd have a really hard time re-creating it out of plexi due to the compound curves. Might be able to use the top as a form before cutting it though... hmm...
Thanks old wiseman.
Its not glass its a polymer. I asked E30_jv, the owner. I dont think it would be as hard as you think. I would cut the oem top only after making a jig, then making a mold to form the "glass". Doing so would also allow me to make more than 1.

I'm glad to see this caught on, and that you're thinking of doing it lol
