A true classic that the Smithsonian would probably snap up in a moment.

Maybe. I picked it up back in the early 2000's because I figured vintage computing was going to be a big thing at some point. The Ataris survived a long time in the world of electronic music production because of the built-in MIDI ports, which was something I was interested in at the time. Outside of that niche though, they were never that popular. I'd be lucky to get $100 for this one if I tried to sell it.

The project I've had in mind is wavetable synthesizer similar to the PPG Wave, but based on slightly more modern hardware. I built a software-base wavetable synth for my final project back when I was in school for electronics, so it's really more of a desire to "finish" what I started there than anything "artistic" (ie move highly repetitive, real-time processing off the CPU and on to dedicated hardware, understand and implement fast fourier transform for analyzing sampled sounds and generating wavetables from them, blah, blah, jargon, blah).

Still, they can make some neat sounds (by 1982 standards)...

Wavetable was quickly replaced by newer technologies such as FM, which could make more interesting sounds, required less hardware, and were able to hit the market at a lower price-point. However, I feel like wavetable is a technique that fell by the wayside before it had a chance to be fully developed, and I'm curious to see if there's more that could be done with it.

Unfortunately, the Atari lacks any kind of of expansion slot, which is what I really needed. Still, I might be able to figure something out... I'd like to play with it more, but I need to figure out how to transfer software to it. Hard to find a PC with a floppy drive in 2018... 🤣

Gotta love the old 8" floppies. 80 Kilobytes!

I was never much into the Ataris. My dad wrote a DOS for the TRS-80s back in the day. TRS-DOS - bought by Tandy Corporation (aka Radio Shack). And of course we know the giants that emerged from the primitive ashes.

And Trash-DOS is exactly what we called it. I don't think they thought it through when they named it...

But then again, maybe they did mmmm?

Have a ton of safety glasses, just slid under the car to look where the carrier bushing mounts and boom. Just a cornea abrasion

Drove my old Yota from Iowa to Wisconsin yesterday pulling a trailer of stuff, 4 speed manual and 3.70 gears and a tractor engine make for a long trip.  It was built in the days of 55mph speed limits.  About 15 miles remaining and the alternator locked up tight.  It's old school with multiple v belts so I just removed the alternator/power steering belt.  Thankfully the water pump has it's own belt.  The lights were pretty dim but I made it.  I was hauling tools so it was only a 5 minute delay.

We had 2 showings yesterday and 1 or 2 more today.  We didn't actually list the house, just facebook and craigslist and called a couple realtors and offered a finders fee if they had anyone interested.  Acreages are really hard to come by so there is a lot of interest right away.

Are Altimax Arctics still what all the cool kids are running? What's the verdict on the "12" vs the original model?

Edit: Priorities are ice racing only because that's where it counts, and anything that's good enough to win at IceX is going to be fine/tolerable for DD duty.

the 12 is pretty new. unless someone bought fresh tires right before last season, we're all on the previous version. personally, i'd trust that the new ones will be as good as the old. the tread design looks like an 'iteration' not some kind of re-make or big change.
