That ad looks very similar to when mine was for sale, seems like the guy has had it for a while as a fun car but doesn't know much about it (plus that one has the elusive V6!). For $3800 (and some maintenance) that could be a great deal and would be an AWESOME daily driver once you ditch those nasty wheels.

Seller is handling this for his boss who's had it for 10 years. Might explain why the seller doesn't know much.  I've asked for more info on service history  and pics.

I checked out the M3 this morning. Short version is that it will need a full suspension refresh, brakes redone, leaking PS hoses and res, cooling system refresh (leaking from the expansion tank during the end of the test drive but not overheating), valve cover leak, slight vanos rattle (but I'm a e30 guy so not sure ).

Interior is worn with typical e36 issues, power seats are good, headliner is stapled in place.

Engine pulls fine, no noticeable drive train issues (clutch, trans, diff). Body looks pretty solid. A few small surface rust areas, jack points are solid though missing 3 of the under body pads and slight surface rust, underbody looks ok but I didn't jack it up for a closer look.

Guy handling the sale for his boss was good to hang out with, admits that he knows nothing about BMW, open to info, and is more a old school VW guy and works on other cars trucks for his own use. Boss travels and left it him since he sees him as a car guy. No service records from the boss. 3rd owner, all in WI-IL

Project car, tall order for a restoration candidate, maybe better for daily beater or track toy but will take $$$$ and time either way.

Cheap 328i, could be a decent winter beater.

GAH!!!!   I wanted that thing badly the first time I saw it for sale but seeing it for sale again in a different setting freaks me out that there is something wrong with it. They arent even trying to turn a profit from the last sale price.

The only thing I noticed about it is that its a single VANOS M52 and not a TU. 1998 was the first year of the TU in the E39

Am I missing something? The ad said it was a 2000, didn’t it?

Oh gotcha, guess that wasn’t mentioned in this ad. That does make one wonder though, especially if it has a 6spd and “m5 suspension”

Went on BaT today, found some cool BMW stuff.

Not one, but two e28 M5's, one with a Dinan turbo kit.

Kinda unhappy that someone took a M3 in a special order color and then put rivet-on flares on it. Why hack it up? I personally don't think that the flares look good at all on it.

Not a BMW, but this caught my eye. I really like the livery, and its even got a dogleg 5-speed! Too bad it's rusty as hell.
