It looks to just be a sunroof. I don't see much of a difference in reflection between it and the rest of the roof on the side view

Good point, hard to tell with black but probably just a sunroof.

Too late for an easy swap. Dual vanos comes with much more complex wiring. 
Though I haven't personally dealt with it.

ECU has been cracked on those finally. EWS delete can be flashed pretty easily. Not sure about the electronic throttle business though... Aluminum block would be cool.

I met this dude once before. He had a really clean E34 540 that he drifts with. I have seen him posting on facebook about the car trying to get it running. Thats about all I know.
