I'm not 100% that I'll sell the M3, but if I do the first thing would be to find a clean E30. I'm pretty much mechanically retarded so either the swap will take forever or I'll be enlisting help.

I actually have my eye on a s54 e30 swap. But we'll see, it may be a long term project.

The shop you speak of, in IL, if its the one I'm thinking of, they also swap s54s into the e36 chassis..

I'm talking about AKG, in Zion Il. They don't do work anymore, just manufacturing parts.

I don't know that I could justify paying a shop to do the swap. Just for shits and giggles, I emailed VAC about a e30 S54 swap. They said, including the engine they'd expect... About $15,000, lol yea right.

From what I gather the saw isn't hard at all. A friend from Cali did an m50 swap in a weekend, once you have the parts it should be pretty easy.

Yea. I've got to find a good chassis first, then do some research on engine options. Ideally I'd want an S series engine. M50's are nice, but I'd like the added power right off the bat.

Who knows. Tomorrow I might say I'm never selling it.

A stroker M50 can often be made for much cheaper than an s50. Any considerations towards boosting the motor?

Immediately no boosting.

Though I've been told M50 is the way to go if you wanted to boost.

My thought is this, I'm not going to sell the m3 unless I can replace it with something atleast somewhat close to the badassedness as the m3.

I would go with M50 purely for price reasons too, it'll give you more money to beef up the suspension/wheels/whatever else you'd wanna do.. in terms of performance, the s50 kinda sucks.

An s54 swap is NOT a weekend project.... An s54 takes a ton of fabrication. There are around five to ten running s54 swaps on r3v and bfc. And S52/S50 are totally different stories, those are weekend projects for sure if you have everything ready to go. 15 large does not seem bad for an s54 swap.

I got another email from VAC today stating with labor I'd be looking at $29,000 for the S54 swap. That's laughable.

Im not overly interested as it is, the S52 is a whole lot more reasonable and cheaper to mod (or fix) to boot!

Good god...

You could have a 750whp turbo'd S52, with fully adjustable Ohlins suspension, titanium Brembos, and a 50 cal mounted on the roof for less than $29k...

More realistically, an s52 + some mods (cams, etc..) + 6 speed would be epic, and again, feasible to get all that swapped in for less than $8k
