What I ended up buying while in Texas
-
I stopped by my sisters for the first night after I hit up my first test drive. A 2007 CCLB Duramax but passed on it.
While I was at her house visiting I took some pictures of my brother-in-laws BMW that I figured you guys would like. It's a 540i (I think he said 2001)
Then I visited my mom the next night. A friend and I ended up getting wasted and walking around town lost. Ended up puking from 10pm-6am intermittently.
Took it easy the next day.
Then Monday hit it hard in Houston on the search for my vehicle. I went to "Diesel of Houston". They had 8 duramax's. 3 were in my price range. So after test driving the 3. I picked up a 2005 LLY for a really good price.

Looks like a good choice! How many miles?
201,000. they had 3 with 106,000 miles but they were all $29,000+
-
Saw the pictures and was stoked you bought a 540. OPPS. Guess not. Looked nice though haha. Good truck
no. My E21 was my first BMW and most likely my last.
-
this girl needed to be driven hard. when I was test driving her. she was tossing black out the exhaust on hard acceleration and it's a stock truck. but it's cleaned up now after a fuel filter change and some hard driving.
-
I like the white TE37's on the 540i. I've always liked those wheels.
-
Beem looks nice with those wheels and height

Just got home from the trip. Truck is a MPG beast. She got 21mpg at 70 on flat roads. She averaged 16 for the total 1300 miles.

That is pretty awesome, especially since you were towing. Wonder what it would get without a trailer on it.....you know, for those of us that do that with our trucks.
-
from my experience with my diesel Ford Excursion back in the day, MPG for a diesel doesn't really change whether you are towing or not. I got steady MPG no matter what I was/wasn't towing.

I didn't have a trailer.

It'll go down of course but Its not nearly as drastic as a gas engine under load.
Was the excursion a 7.3 or 6.0?
-
After hand calculating it. I averaged 17mpg over 1700 miles of driving. I am impressed since it doesn't have highway tires on. And the EGR hasn't been deleted and it still has a cat/muffler on the exhaust.

It was the good engine, 7.3L

It's a shame they discontinued them because of sales. They were such beasts compared to suburbans.

True but I enjoy my consistent 18-19mpgs in my 6.5 burb. Its a great motor if taken care of properly just like anything else.

6.5s should get 21mpg.
That is originally what I started looking at to buy. I love the way they sound.

I do too, can't wait to get a 3" turbo back on mine. I've gotten 20's doing pure highway but thats my city/highway average.

You're funny. Why lie? You said guys with trucks who don't tow are douche bags. I think you were towing. Was it just a small trailer?
