I would like to add that we cannot put all of the blame on the NHTSA or EPA for this one. Mercedes initiated the million dollar campaign to enact the ban on importation of cars not intended for our market.

I didn't realize that, just another reason to hate Merc's!
They were upset that Americans were importing G-wagons and 500SEL's in the 80's instead of being content with the 380SEL we had.
