Everyone complains about the exhaust note on these. Yeah, it doesn't scream like the old v-8 but once aftermarkets/straight pipes get added it might sound decent. Especially with some turbo spool in the mix. Whats your opinion?

I heard something goofy like an exhaust note is played through the radio so the car sounds sportier....

The engine noise synthesizers are extremely stupid

The noise of the new M4 engine isnt boner inducing in itself, but there is a cacaphony of other sounds going on which makes it interesting and enjoyable... especially the crack between shifts

All I had heard before actually hearing the exhaust were people just slamming BMW for using the exhaust synth in-car.  After hearing recordings I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it doesn't sound like complete crap coming out of the tailpipe.

I was fortunate enough to drive the new M4. It sounds pretty natural from within the cabin. Sounds awesome from the outside. Lots of pops and blips.

Throttle response is stupid fast and turbo lag is non-existent. Here's one of the better reviews of the F8x I've come across: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1005166

It's annoying that most peoples thoughts are based on nothing other than hearsay and ignore things like actual driving impressions from real people.

Exhaust cracks sound similar to to the M5/M6 exhaust. I agree the idea of the engine synthesizers is lame but in practice its nothing to scoff at, the exhaust noises make up for everything.
