Thought I'd share this from work. A sales manager at the other store has 2013 m sport 535i 6spd which he let his friend drive. The friend missed a shift apparently and dropped it into 3rd gear at what I assume would be highway speed. He must've been higher up in the rpm range already because the engine was mechanically over-revved

Above is a pic of the output shaft on the N55, I can't imagine the sound of bending a crankshaft and destroying a transmission all at the same time lol. A new N55 costs 10k, I'm sure the trans was another 6-8k plus all the labor made this a very expensive money shift.

Ouch...I wasn't even aware that a 6-speed was available in a 535i haha, that really sucks though

Man, that's a bummer. After talking the other day I did a little research and found that this will not be covered under warranty. 10k is a "big money shift".

          Oh that is baaad.

          reminds me of

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtaB3oUsVJQ

Im just thinking out loud here: So the sudden change in inertia from one of the pistons on the exhaust stroke broke the connecting rod bolts then on the lack of support caused the crankshaft to deflect from adjacent cylinders under compression and power strokes.

Hearing motors grenade is gut wrenching. Especially when it's someone else driving!
