No Dash Lights
-
I have a 1999 M coupe that when I turn the head lights on, I don't get any dash or center consol lights. the gauges all work, just no lights. I've checked the fuses. The only other thing I can think of would be the switch itself. I havn't tried the switch yet, but just wondered if there may be something else?

Your headlight switch is bad. You fried the "rheostat" inside of it. The rheostat is for dimming the interior lights.
Heres the source- (your car car is an e36 chassis)

Ok, I replaced the switch, and it worked. At least until I drove 5 miles stopped to have diner and when I came out, you guessed it. It was out again.

Do you have the right fuse for the interior lights? It should pop the fuse before burning up the switch.
-
Yes the fuse is correct. I was thinking a short, but then it would blow the fuse not the switch. I'm baffeled.

Im sure you could bypass it, but then you wont have the dim function. It could just be an open circuit somewhere though.. but that still wouldn't make sense.
