2a98 and 2a99 Shadow Codes, What To Do?

So I was getting a single 2a99 shadow code being stored in the DME. In reading a few threads on various sites people recommended pulling the VANOS solenoids, cleaning, then swapping locations. I completed that a few weeks back and all seemed well with no new codes being stored. Well today I decided to scan for codes and found I am now getting the 2a98 and 2a99 codes. In talking with a couple people they are recommending that I replace both solenoids. My biggest fear is I have a bearing ledge issue, but that seems to be more common in the N54 engines and not the N52 engines. I was wondering if anyone on this forum had some advise to share in resolving my issue before I spend $220 on two new solenoids for my 2006 E90. Thanks.

How is anybody here going to have experience with it first hand? Amost all people who own e90s take the car in when it needs service. Not many owners are diy. Replace both selenoids and be on your way. Also do an oil change.
Sounds like a lot of E90 owners are lazy:-) I have only taken my car into the shop for the water pump after it failed on the way to work and that wasn't by choice. If I can do it myself without have to buy $3000 in special BMW tools I'll do it myself.
