My friend was searching craigslist when he came upon a funny ad about an the shell of an M3. I texted the number in the ad. Long story short he is a moderator here and told me about this site.

I am 21. I got my BMW because its engine went @ 240,000. My dad found it in California when I was 15. He had cancer. So he wanted to restore the car with me as a final project. I don't remember the project too well. But I do remember that we disassembled (well he did) the motor completely. And that upon putting it back together. It started the first try and he was ecstatic.

Maybe some of you might have heard of his shop. It was Alpine Imports Specialists in Glendale. About a mile from Concours.

Everyone in my family are BMW lovers thanks to our father. The only person out of 6 people who do not own a BMW is one of my brothers.

My younger brother owns a 2002 that was supposed to get a 500HP upgrade. But my dad died before finishing that project.

Anyways. I'm excited to be here. I love forums like this. I am also on VWvortex because I own a jetta as my winter car.

The paint job looks good from 50 feet. The door driver side door handle. The paint has cracked. Because the guy painted it in a dirty booth. Even though I offered to help him clean it. And there are fish eyes, a few runs and stuff. But nothing that noticeable. Only a few dents too.

I am going to be in Madison on Sunday April 22nd. For an event called "frost off" at a shop called Radio Dr. I am going to try my best to finish my jetta in time so I can have it metered. (audio).

As for the paint job. My dad and I argued on that. Because I knew he wasn't going to be around to pay for it. And at the time I was 16 and working at McDonalds. But he took a sander to the trunk and said "there. Now you have to paint it". So I got started. After 3 paint jobs (due to problems) that is the result. I paid $1000 total for the paint job(including paint and labor). So its not he best or the cleanest. But I did use good products.

Welcome. Alpine was a well known independent shop and they helped me to sort out my e30 when I picked it up in 2007. I think I remember reading a story about your dad (Denis?), you, and the project car in the local Badger Bimmer publication (Immer) that was later picked up by Roundel the national BMWCCA publication. Glad to hear that BMW remains in the blood.

Welcome!! I'm glad to see another e21 owner around here. You don't find these too often. Glad you made it onto the forums. Looks like a super clean and nice car and I love the front valance.

The car is lucky to be here. The total motor rebuild ran 10 grand. And my dad lucked out on finding a set of mahle pistons for it. Apparently it was the last set they had? The front bumper was given to me. A customer came into the shop after my dad was gone and it was being run by my sister and her husband. The guy read the article and came back with that bumper. Looks much better than the stock american bumpers for sure.

The only thing changed on the car is ride height. He lowered it 1.5" and cambere'd the rear wheels. I only put about 1-2k miles a year on it.

As for the paint job. My dad and I argued on that. Because I knew he wasn't going to be around to pay for it. And at the time I was 16 and working at McDonalds.
I actually want to re-do some of the car. As there is rust forming around the inside of the wheel wells.
