BMW offered to give him a brand new BMW in exchange for this E32 that they wanted to put on display at BMW headquarters.

According to CNN He declined and wants to keep driving the E32.

I've had a number of e38 protection package cars come through work but never an e39. I guess I just didn't image a non executive type of car with that package.

Nope.  e39.  I've seen some protection 540i's come up for sale over the years.  I don't think I have ever seen an e38 protection for sale.
