Still averaging 18.2 MPG with my current setup (1.5" level up front, 20x9.5 wheels and 35x11.50x20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers). If I drive around with the cruise set at 60 I can still get over 20 MPG, and I got 19 MPG with a 700lb Harley in the back riding from Sheboygan to Madison.

I am surprised how often my wagon has saved me where if I just had a coupe or sedan it would not have worked. Plus, more room for the dog in the wagon too.

I mean, if that's your thing. At least 75% of the people I see with trucks out by me have absolutely no use for them besides the point of liking trucks. A good 50% of those never see anything put into the truck bed besides beer cans and human bodies.

agreed, there are plenty of good reasons to have a truck.  personally, I'd love to have a truck and a car. but i can't have both, so a wagon does double duty. i think it has more to do with how often you find the limits, not what the limits are.  the amount of times you 'really' need a truck is more the determining factor.

Thats is the only real input I have, I'll be driving 90's GM trucks until I die.

I'm just saying without doing these type of activities on the regular, justifying the extra fuel costs and overall comfort/driveability of the vehicle is hard to do. I mean honestly, we all know at least one person close to us that would let us borrow a truck for the evening if we needed to move anything sizeable like that=)

Not trying to sway decisions or push Tourings as being "the very best all around vehicle" but I figured I would show the value/option versus buying a truck that could potentially rarely be used for its intended purposes

seconded, by a guy who wants a truck, but can't stand how they drive like buses.

in one trip to the hardware store i can fit some 10' pvc sections, a few sheets of 4x8 ply on the roof, and a pile of 2x4x8s

I'd stay away from the canyon/colorado's.  From what I've seen in the shop is they're a turd.  Part's are as expensive as the big trucks (god forbid you do the brakes on your own).  The 5 cyl had overheating issues while the 4 cyl can't get out of it's own way.  The extended cab is great for your lunch box and maybe a dog but I wouldn't put actual people back their regardless of their stature.
